SwissSPAD3 is the latest of a family of widefield time-gated SPAD imagers developed for fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) applications. Its distinctive features are (i) the ability to define shorter gates than its predecessors (width W < 1 ns), (ii) supp ...

Most quantum algorithms assume some specific initial state in superposition of basis states before performing the desired application-specific computations. The preparation of such states itself requires a computation performed by a quantum circuit. In thi ...

Assortment planning deserves much attention from practitioners and academics due to its direct impact on retailers' commercial success. In this paper we focus on the increasingly popular retail practice to use combined product assortments with both "standa ...

In many daily tasks, we make multiple decisions before reaching a goal. In order to learn such sequences of decisions, a mechanism to link earlier actions to later reward is necessary. Reinforcement learning (RL) theory suggests two classes of algorithms s ...

Stochastic programming and distributionally robust optimization seek deterministic decisions that optimize a risk measure, possibly in view of the most adverse distribution in an ambiguity set. We investigate under which circumstances such deterministic de ...

When humans or animals perform an action that led to a desired outcome, they show a tendency to repeat it. The mechanisms underlying learning from past experience and adapting future behavior are still not fully understood. In this thesis, I study how huma ...

In reinforcement learning, an agent makes sequential decisions to maximize reward. During learning, the actual and expected outcome are compared to tell whether a decision was good or bad. The difference between the actual outcome and expected outcome is t ...

The paper presents a novel method to verify and debug gate-level arithmetic circuits implemented in Galois Field arithmetic. The method is based on forward reduction of the specification polynomials of the circuit in GF(2(m)) using GF(2) models of its logi ...

Logic synthesis is an important part of electronic design automation (EDA) flows, which enable the implementation of digital systems. As the design size and complexity increase, the data structures and algorithms for logic synthesis must adapt and improve ...

A method for optimizing an implementation of a logic circuit, comprising steps of providing an interpretation of the logic circuit in terms of 3 Boolean variable majority operators M, with each of the majority operators being a function of a plurality of v ...

In this paper, we present an improved design flow for nanoelectromechanical (NEM) relay-based combinational logic circuits. Six-terminal NEM relays can be programmed to act as 2-to-1 multiplexers. We can therefore use NEM relays to implement arbitrary comb ...

In this paper, we present biconditional binary deci- sion diagrams (BBDDs), a novel canonical representation form for Boolean functions. BBDDs are binary decision diagrams where the branching condition, and its associated logic expansion, is biconditional ...

We present a novel class of decision diagrams, called Biconditional Binary Decision Diagrams (BBDDs), that enable efficient logic synthesis for XOR-rich functions. BBDDs are binary decision diagrams where the Shannon’s expansion is replaced by the bicondit ...

Structures can be better understood when measurement data are used to improve the modeling of structural behavior. Our capacity to interpret data depends on aspects such as the choice of model class, model parameters (and their range of possible values), a ...

This thesis tackles new challenges associated with the disaggregate modeling of the human behavior. Decision-aid tools help in making decisions, by providing quantitative insights on the decisions and associated consequences. They are useful in complex sit ...

Motivated by applications in software verification, we explore automated reasoning about the non-disjoint combination of theories of infinitely many finite structures, where the theories share set variables and set operations. We prove a combination theore ...

Floods are not only due to fatality. It is the responsibility of the human being to protect himself from heavy damages due to natural elements, and he sometimes has the chance to profit from a given situation to influence events. One of these possibilities ...
