All-optical poling leads to an effective second-order nonlinearity (chi((2))) in centrosymmetric materials without the need for sophisticated fabrication techniques or material processing, through the periodic self-organization of the charges. The absence ...

Multimode optical fibers are the backbone of telecommunication and medical imaging. When light with high intensity travels through a multimode fiber, photons and matter start to interact and propa-gation becomes nonlinear. The nonlinear propagation of ligh ...

We theoretically and experimentally investigate the formation of dissipative coherent structures in Kerr nonlinear optical microresonators, whose spectrum encompasses an integrated dispersion that exceeds the cavity free-spectral range. We are able to acce ...

Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are the subject of massive interest due to the range of applications they can provide at a huge scale while building on well-established CMOS technologies. One of the critical parameters defining a technology's maturity ...

Digital micro-mirror devices (DMDs) have been deployed in many optical applications. As compared to spatial light modulators (SLMs), they are characterized by their much faster refresh rates (full-frame refresh rates up to 32 kHz for binary patterns) compa ...

The intrinsic random amplitude and phase modulation of 40 distinct lines of a microresonator frequency comb operated in the modulation instability regime are used to realize massively parallel random-modulation continuous-wave light detection and ranging, ...

Exceptional points are a ubiquitous concept widely present in driven-dissipative coupled systems described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. To date, exceptional points have been extensively examined in the systems supporting only a few optical modes, thereb ...

A tunable and reconfigurable optical aggregation system is experimentally demonstrated. Optical Nyquist pulses are generated on multiple channels using a microresonator-based Kerr optical frequency comb and insertion of uniform lines by an intensity modula ...

In this paper, we investigate federated contextual linear bandit learning within a wireless system that comprises a server and multiple devices. Each device interacts with the environment, selects an action based on the received reward, and sends model upd ...

Materials properties are strictly dependent on their microstructure. The internal symmetries and the disposition of the constituting atoms of a material, which depend on its crystallographic structure, greatly affect its response to mechanical, electromagn ...

Quasi-phase-matching (QPM) has become one of the most common approaches for increasing the efficiency of nonlinear three-wave mixing processes in integrated photonic circuits. Here, we provide a study of dispersion engineering of QPM second-harmonic (SH) g ...

We show how broadband (>30nm) quasi-phase matching in all-optically poled Si3N4 waveguides provides a platform for efficient sum-frequency generation, and for femtosecond pulse processing such as fcEo detection without the need for group velocity engineeri ...

Photo-modulation is a promising strategy for contactless and ultrafast control of optical and electrical properties of photoactive materials. Graphene is an attractive candidate material for photo-modulation due to its extraordinary physical properties and ...

Optical soliton molecules are bound states of solitons that arise from the balance between attractive and repulsive effects. Having been observed in systems ranging from optical fibres to mode-locked lasers, they provide insights into the fundamental inter ...

The pursuit of high-speed and on-chip optical communication systems has promoted extensive exploration of all-optical control of light-matter interactions via nonlinear optical processes. Here, we have numerically investigated the ultrafast dynamic switchi ...

The emerging fields of silicon (Si) photonic micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and optomechanics enable a wide range of novel high-performance photonic devices with ultra-low power consumption, such as integrated optical MEMS phase shifters, tunable c ...

Frequency doubling of an infrared laser radiation in non-linear optical crystals is a widely used technique to obtain light in the visible range. The second harmonic generation process is influenced by several well-known parameters. In this article we stud ...

Compressed Sensing teaches us that measurements can be traded for offline computation if the signal being sensed has a simple enough representation. Proper decoders can exactly recover the high-dimensional signal of interest from a lower-dimensional vector ...

We demonstrate an integrated source of frequency-entangled photon pairs on a silicon photonics chip. The emitter has a coincidence-to-accidental ratio exceeding 10(3). We prove entanglement by showing two-photon frequency interference with a visibility of ...

Gallium phosphide (GaP) is an indirect-bandgap semiconductor used widely in solid-state lighting. Despite numerous intriguing optical properties-including large chi ((2)) and chi ((3)) coefficients, a high refractive index (>3) and transparency from visibl ...
