In many countries, payment of unemployment benefit is conditional on active job-seeking on the part of recipients, who are required to accept any "reasonable" job offers made to them (Dalloz 2008). In France, this notion of "Reasonable Job Offer" (ORE) has ...

Negative interest rate regimes typically involve reserve tiering to exempt a portion of bank reserves from negative rates. We study the effects on bank behavior of a large and unanticipated change in reserve tiering by the Swiss National Bank that generate ...

We report on coherent propagation of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin waves over a long distance (similar to 10 mu m) at room temperature in a canted AFM alpha-Fe2O3 owing to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Unprecedented high group velocities (up ...

At the crossroads of transportation engineering and urban sociology, the dissertation deciphers the interactions between daily mobility and social inequalities, what I call the "social mechanics of mobility". To do so, I draw on a twofold survey, both quan ...

The effects of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market are matters of great social concern. Economists and technology experts are debating at what rate, and to what extent, technology could be used to replace humans in occupations, and ...

This article shows that the inability to use monetary policy for macroeconomic stabilization leaves a government more vulnerable to a rollover crisis. We study a sovereign default model with self-fulfilling rollover crises, foreign currency debt, and nomin ...

In this article, we review the growing literature on financial technology (FinTech) lending-the provision of credit facilitated by technology that improves the customer-lender interaction or used in lenders' screening and monitoring of borrowers. FinTech l ...

After the financial crisis, policy rates in the major advanced economies have moved downwards to near/below zero. Some countries have experienced an increase in house prices and an expansion of mortgages. Also, there have been considerable changes in the m ...

We exploit differences across U.S. states' exposure to trade to study the effects of changes in the exchange rate on economic activity. Across states, trade-weighted exchange rate depreciations are associated with increased state exports, reduced state une ...

A financial data analysis using the time series method has been performed. At the same time a correct interpretation of daily exchange rates fluctuations, for Eur foreign currencies is presented. The fractal dimension evaluation has been performed using th ...

Does the scaling relationship between population sizes of cities with urban metrics like economic output and infrastructure (transversal scaling) mirror the evolution of individual cities in time (longitudinal scaling)? The answer to this question has impo ...

This paper studies the effects of fiscal policy on net exports, the terms of trade and expenditure switching. Using data on government spending and consumption taxes for twelve euro area countries over 1996 to 2018, it shows that fiscal austerity shocks im ...

This thesis develops three models that study the motivation of various agents to take on debt, and the impact that excessive financial leverage can have on social welfare. In the chapter "Short-term Bank Leverage and the Value of Liquid Reserves", the ince ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is one of the most powerful and informative methods to probe molecular dynamics. Specifically, chemical exchange is an important phenomenon and one of the earliest and most vigorously investigated in NMR spectr ...

The ability to issue debt that pays in units of the domestic good leads a country to accumulate a large and negative net foreign asset position while maintaining a positive position in equity. This debt market advantage also helps to explain the weak relat ...

We provide the first systematic study of liquidity in the foreign exchange market. We find significant variation in liquidity across exchange rates, substantial illiquidity costs, and strong commonality in liquidity across currencies and with equity and bo ...

This paper studies the potential gains of monetary and macro-prudential policies that lean against house-price and credit cycles. We rely on a model that features Borrowers and Savers and allows for over-borrowing induced by news-shock-driven cycles. We fi ...

The syntheses, single crystal X-ray structures, and magnetic properties of the homometallic mu(3)-oxo trinuclear clusters Fe-3(mu(3)-O)(mu-O2CCH3)(6)(4-Phpy)(3) (1) and F(e)3(mu(3)-O)(mu-O(2)CAd)(6)(4-Mepy)(3) (2) are reported (Ad = adamanta ...

This thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter endogenizes technological change by introducing a stylized innovation process driven by a R&D–dependent Poisson process in a Cox, Ingersoll and Ross (1985) production economy. The model reproduces s ...

This paper analyzes the relationship between inflation, output and government size by reexamining the time inconsistency of optimal monetary and fiscal policies in a general equilibrium model with staggered timing structure for the acquisition of nominal m ...
