This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the accuracy of high-frequency (HF) earth meters in measuring the tower-footing ground resistance of transmission line structures, combining simulation and experimental results. The findings demonstrate tha ...

Photovoltaic parks often utilize communication among the different converters to ensure accurate PCC voltage control and disturbance rejection. However, time delays in the communication network can affect the control performance and stability, and need to ...

This paper presents a distributed shadow dynamic consensus (DSDC) framework to address the generation company (GENCO) strategic bidding problem in the independent system operator (ISO) operation. First, each sub-group is defined according to the communicat ...

Distributed embedded systems are pervasive components jointly operating in a wide range of applications. Moving toward energy harvesting powered systems enables their long-term, sustainable, scalable, and maintenance-free operation. When these systems are ...

Among hydrodynamically unstable flows, the amplifier-flows are characterized by their large amplification potential in presence of external noise. Since amplifiers do not have an intrinsic dynamics, a chosen forcing can be applied to eventually control the ...

Background: For the functional control of prosthetic hand, it is insufficient to obtain only the motion pattern information. As far as practicality is concerned, the control of the prosthetic hand force is indispensable. The application value of prosthetic ...

This thesis develops optimization based techniques for the control of building heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for the provision of demand response and ancillary services to the electric grid. The first part of the thesis focuses ...

Environmental concerns are leading to a fast transition in electric power systems towards replacing fossil fuel and nuclear generation with renewable generation. This transition has two significant implications for electric power systems: 1-The capacity o ...

Traffic congestion is a substantial problem plaguing modern society. Researchers and practitioners working on transportation systems turn to methods from automatic control to decrease congestion and improve urban mobility. Considering the sheer physical si ...

In this study, we present a technical and economic assessment of high-current HTS bus bars for primary use in fusion reactors. Our objective is to verify the technical feasibility of such conductors and, for this purpose, we carry out a conceptual design o ...

This paper presents a flexible and modular control scheme based on distributed model predictive control (DMPC) to achieve optimal operation of decentralized energy systems in smart grids. The proposed approach is used to coordinate multiple distributed ene ...

Effective collaboration in multi-robot systems requires accurate and robust estimation of relative localization: from cooperative manipulation to collaborative sensing, and including cooperative exploration or cooperative transportation. This paper introdu ...

This paper proposes a Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme to solve the target estimation and tracking problem. The objective is to derive a feedback law that drives an autonomous robotic vehicle to follow a target vehicle using an on-line estimate of the ...

With advances in image processing and machine learning, it is now feasible to incorporate semantic information into the problem of simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM). Previously, SLAM was carried out using lower level geometric features (points, ...

Optimal operation of chemical processes is key for meeting productivity, quality, safety and environmental objectives. Both model-based and data-driven schemes are used to compute optimal operating conditions [1]: - The model-based techniques are intu ...

In spite of the dominance of ac technology for the vast majority of power transmission and distribution since the late 19th century, the past decades have seen an increase in use of dc electrical power. In particular, this has been the case both in high vo ...

In the framework of stochastic processes, the connection between the dynamic programming scheme given by the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation and a recently proposed control approach based on the Fokker-Planck equation is discussed. Under appropriate assum ...

A novel splitting scheme to solve parametric multi-convex programs is presented. It consists of a fixed number of proximal alternating minimisations and a dual update per time step, which makes it attractive in a real-time Nonlinear Model Predictive Contro ...

The development of an aircraft industrial system is a complex process which faces the challenge of digital discontinuity in multidisciplinary engineering due to various interfaces between different digital tools, leading to extra development time and costs ...

Motion control of bio-inspired mobile robotic platforms can prove a challenging problem. In particular, models for the considered type of systems may prove nonlinear, uncertain, and fairly complicated. To address these issues, use of an output predictor-ba ...
