Environmental concerns are leading to a fast transition in electric power systems towards replacing fossil fuel and nuclear generation with renewable generation. This transition has two significant implications for electric power systems: 1-The capacity o ...

Future low-carbon societies will need to store vast amounts of electricity to stabilize electricity grids and to power electric vehicles. Vehicle-to-grid allows vehicle owners and grid operators to share the costs of electricity storage by making the batte ...

To limit global warming, the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables is one of the main challenges of this century. This transition will help decrease our CO2 emissions, create jobs, contribute to a broader revenues distribution, improve energy s ...

Most European countries are committed to an energy transition which consists in the substitution of conventional CO2 emitting energy sources by new renewable energy sources (RES), in particular wind and solar power. As opposed to conventional energy source ...

This paper proposes a real-time decentralized control algorithm in multi-area active distribution network relying only on dispersed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs). In particular, we propose a zonal control strategy targeting voltage support and lin ...

This thesis develops equilibrium models, and studies the effects of market frictions on risk-sharing, derivatives pricing, and trading patterns. In the chapter titled "Imbalance-Based Option Pricing", I develop an equilibrium model of fragmented options m ...

Energy policy needs to rely on the proper understanding of the interactions between policy instruments, consumer preferences, investment behavior, market structure, electricity supply, and the wider policy environment. This asks for appropriate modeling to ...

Due to the increased penetration of Distributed Generations (DGs) in distribution networks, the system control and operation may become quite different from the case of traditional network. Most DGs can only provide intermittent power to the Active Distrib ...

Although the techniques for normal price prediction are well advanced, price spike prediction remains a challenge. The aim of this paper is to present a method to predict both normal day-ahead electricity prices as well as day-ahead price spikes using clas ...

Scheduling voltage and reactive power is one of the major problems and concerns of the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) especially after deregulation of power market. Due to locally provision of the reactive power resources, each TSO has developed its ...

The purpose of this research was to explore how the values of travel time (VTT) and preferences for different modes vary within individuals compared with the variation between observed trips. With 6-week revealed preference panel data and stated preference ...

An efficient and non-discriminatory capacity allocation and congestion management is a core task of transmission system operators in any restructured electricity sector. For historic reasons, the allocation of transmission capacity in the European electric ...

Pricing is considered an effective management policy to reduce traffic congestion in transportation networks. In this paper we combine a macroscopic model of traffic congestion in urban networks with an agent-based simulator to study congestion pricing sch ...

The paper is devoted to the problems arising from the ultrafast (≤ 10 min) charging of an electric vehicle (EV). An ultrafast charging station (UFCS) must provide high power output with minimal influence on the electricity transmission system, which can on ...

Several regulatory changes in Europe's electricity sector have stimulated competition in the market. National power companies, with monopolistic structures, have evolved into competitive entities, creating increased choices for consumers. Electricity price ...

A predictive mechanism is proposed in order to reduce price volatility linked to large fluctuations from de- mand and renewable energy generation in competitive electricity markets. The market participants are modelled as price-elastic units, price-inelast ...

After their theoretical development in the early 1990s, Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) have been applied in restructured US electricity markets for about a decade now. Lately, FTRs have also been proposed as a potential feature of the emerging Europe ...

In the light of the ongoing electricity market integration in Europe, the debate has turned to a more regional approach of network access. Among other things, this leads to new questions with regard to the handling of congestion revenues. This paper explor ...

The electricity markets worldwide have distinctive particularities due to some political and historical reasons. However, principal guidelines of market design remain very similar. The main feature of deregulation is to introduce a competition into the gen ...
