Introduction Recent work has shown an association between cognitive and visual impairments and two main theories were advanced, namely the sensory deprivation and the common cause theories. Most studies considered only basic visual functions such as visual ...

Our visual perception of the world - seeing form and colour or navigating the environment - depends on the interaction of light and matter in the environment. Light also has a more fundamental role in regulating rhythms in physiology and behaviour, as well ...

There seems to be no common factor for visual perception, i.e., performance in visual tasks correlates only weakly with each other. Similar results were found with visual illusions. One may expect common visual factors for individuals suffering from pathol ...

In crowding, perception of a target deteriorates when neighboring flankers are presented. Flankers close to the fovea deteriorate performance less strongly than flankers presented peripherally, the well-known crowding asymmetries. For example, we presented ...

Common factors are ubiquitous in cognition, audition, and somato-sensation. Surprisingly, there seems to be no common factor in vision, i.e., visual tasks correlate very weakly with each other. Here, we show that there are likely many very specific factors ...

PURPOSE. This work is focused on the testing of a new experimental noninvasively adjustable glaucoma drainage device (AGDD) that allows for the control of its outflow resistance to modulate intraocular pressure (IOP) in a customized fashion. METHODS. Six A ...

In binocular rivalry, only one image is perceived consciously when different, incompatible images are presented to the left and right eye, respectively. The other image is suppressed. Binocular suppression is generally assumed to occur within retinotopic c ...

When perceiving properties of the world, we effortlessly combine multiple sensory cues into optimal estimates. Estimates derived from the individual cues are generally retained once the multisensory estimate is produced and discarded only if the cues stem ...

Geometry is closely linked to visual perception; yet, very little is known about the geometry of visual processing beyond early retinotopic organization. We present a variety of perceptual phenomena showing that a retinotopic representation is neither suff ...

The perception of a stimulus can strongly be modified by its spatial context. For example, when a vernier stimulus is flanked by two lines, performance deteriorates compared to a vernier without flanks. This is usually explained by local interactions, such ...
