Modern integrated circuits are tiny yet incredibly complex technological artifacts, composed of millions and billions of individual structures working in unison. Managing their complexity and facilitating their design drove part of the co-evolution of mode ...

Redox homeostasis is a key factor in maintaining cellular function and health. The main determinant of the intracellular redox potential is ubiquitous glutathione (GSH) together with its oxidized dimer (GSSG). Importantly, both redox equilibrium and GSH ho ...

Diode effects are of great interest for both fundamental physics and modern technologies. Electrical diode effects (nonreciprocal transport) have been observed in Weyl systems. Optical diode effects arising from the Weyl fermions have been theoretically co ...

A classification methodology for the automatic detection of start- and endpoints of chemical and biotechnological reaction systems from spectral reaction data is proposed. In the calibration phase, several batch experiments must be conducted covering the e ...

A quantum dot is a semiconductor nanostructure that confines the motion of conduction band electrons and valence band holes in all three spatial directions, thus creating fully discrete energy levels. The confinement in the InAs/GaAs material system is gen ...

Periodic structures, such as frequency-selective surfaces (FSSs) and photonic band-gap (PBG) materials, exhibit total reflection in specific frequency bands while total transmission in other bands. They find numerous applications in a large field of the el ...

Photoacoustic spectroscopy is a widely recognised technique to measure trace gases at parts-per-million (ppm) or parts-per-billion (ppb) level using semiconductor laser in the near infrared range. This technique is based on the generation of an acoustic wa ...

Though the ISPRS has had standardization on its agenda for a long time the progress was slow and the output of completed document is still limited. The reasons are manifold: lack of awareness of standardization, necessary alignment with the standardization ...

We present in this work a new technique, which combines laser photofragmentation spectroscopy with tandem mass spectrometry, for structural investigations of biomolecular ions in the gas phase. A novel apparatus was designed and built for the implementatio ...

IEEE 802.11 works properly only if the stations respect the MAC protocol. We show in this paper that a greedy user can substantially increase his share of bandwidth, at the expense of the other users, by slightly modifying the driver of his network adapter ...

We describe the use of stimulated Raman pumping in a molecular beam to perform quantum state resolved gas-surface reactivity measurements for molecules prepared in totally symmetric vibrational states. Vibrational states of homonuclear diatomics as well as ...

Indicator displacement assays based on the organometallic complex [Cp*RhCl2]2 and the dye gallocyanine have been used to sense aminosugars and aminoglycosides in buffered aqueous solution by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The data of three assays at pH 7.0, 8.0 and ...

Fiber laser systems have the potential to represent an interesting alternative to more conventional laser sources emitting in the visible spectral range. In this contribution we present new results based on fluoride Pr/Yb- doped fiber systems. This Pr/Yb-d ...

We report here infrared spectra of protonated and lithiated valine with varying degrees of hydration in the gas phase and interpret them with the help of DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31++G** level. In both the protonated and lithiated species, our resul ...

This thesis presents the coherence properties of polaritons in semiconductor microcavities. Semiconductor microcavities are microstructures in which the exciton ground state of a semiconductor quantum well is coupled to a photonic mode of a microresonator. ...

In the world of video especially in video processing important steps are being taken at this time. Research projects around the world are tackling all kind of tracking problems and segmentation of video images. Others are doing feature extraction, image en ...

The distributed optical-fibre sensors based on the properties of Brillouin scattering is the central object of this thesis. In the past decade, optical fibres have gained a large interest as sensors: attractive solutions based on the non-linear stimulated ...

The aim of this thesis is to optimise and gain fundamental information on two applications of photomedicine using fluorescence imaging and spectrofluorometry: (1) the detection of early bronchial cancer by autofluorescence imaging and (2) the endometrial a ...

The sol-gel technology offers highly interesting prospects for fiber fabrication. The main advantage is the possibility to incorporate any dopants and co-dopants soluble in a suitable solvent. Generally, these dopants are homogeneously dissolved in the mat ...

Photonic crystals are periodic dielectric structures, where the periodicity varies in one, two or three dimensions. Analogous to the periodic potential of electrons in semiconductors, the periodic variation of the dielectric constant influences the electro ...
