Aqueous zinc-ion batteries have emerged as promising candidates for safe and cost-effective energy storage, yet their performance remains constrained by electrode stability and electrolyte composition. In this study, we investigate the electrochemical beha ...

Over the past decade, memristive biosensors have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in biological detection. However, a notable limitation has been the loss of the memristive effect during biosensing operations. In this study, we introduce a memristive b ...

Dielectric Elastomer Actuators (DEAs) are a type of smart material described as compliant capacitors. They show impressive performances as soft actuators, such as a high strain and fast response. Nonetheless, replicating natural muscle function with DEAs h ...

The Fast Discharge Units (FDUs) of the Superconducting (SC) Toroidal Field (TF) coils in the European demonstration fusion power plant DEMO warrant the machine integrity over its full lifetime against severe failure events, such as SC coil quenches or any ...

Protection against electrostatic discharges requires knowledge of the discharge-current path. Thanks to the time-reversal technique combined with a GHz-range resonant metalens, we present an experimental gateway to imaging subwavelength interference source ...

Low-temperature plasmas (LTPs) at atmospheric pressure hold great promise for disinfection and sterilization applications. When compared to traditional sterilization technologies like autoclaving, LTPs may offer several benefits, including reduced energy c ...

The present knowledge of plunging hyperpycnal river plumes is mainly based on two-dimensional (confined) laboratory experiments. Several hypotheses on three-dimensional (unconfined) flow processes have been made, but not tested in situ. In this field study ...

Helium metastable densities in the COST Reference Microplasma Jet are estimated for a variety of He/N2 admixtures and dissipated powers by applying a collisional-radiative model to absolutely calibrated optical emission spectroscopy measurements. This is a ...

In traditional power delivery networks, the on-chip supply voltage is provided by board-level converters. Due to the significant distance between the converter and the load, variations in the load current are not effectively managed, producing a significan ...

This paper focuses on the operational characteristics of a medium voltage resonant DC transformer based on a split capacitor IGCT 3L-NPC leg. The study delves into both the dynamic and static balancing aspects of the 3L-NPC when operating in a two-level, 5 ...

Time-domain solutions of Maxwell’s equations in homogeneous and isotropic media are paramount to studying transient or broadband phenomena. However, analytical solutions are generally unavailable for practical applications, while numerical solutions are co ...

The shift towards DC power distribution networks, enabled by power electronics technologies, is changing the nature of electrical power systems. Nowadays, DC power distribution networks can effectively support the high penetration of distributed energy res ...

In this work, we present a concept that leverages the strong piezoelectric polarization field in InGaN, which counteracts the external electric field at reverse bias. We show that despite the smaller InGaN band-gap and lower critical electric field, its st ...

Operation of a tokamak device requires the coordinated operation of a multitude of systems. The sequence of operations during a discharge is both too complex and fast for human interaction. A common way of operation is a predefined sequence of operations w ...

The ITER Heating Neutral Beam (HNB) source prototype SPIDER (Source for the Production of Ions of Deuterium Extracted from a Radio frequency plasma), hosted at the Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padova, Italy, has recently started operating with evap ...

Electrochemical batteries are ubiquitous devices in our society. When employed in mission-critical applications, the ability to precisely predict their end-of-discharge under highly variable operating conditions is of paramount importance in order to suppo ...

Owing to the advancements in the area of power electronics, efficient and flexible ac to dc conversion is made possible, bringing back into focus the idea of the dc power transmission at various voltage levels. Several technical and economical factors advo ...

We apply the stochastic-trajectory analysis to derive exact expressions for the mean first passage times of jump-and-drift transition paths across two or more consecutive thresholds. We perform the analysis of the crossing statistics in terms of dimensionl ...

This paper presents an output capacitor-less low-dropout regulator (LDO) with a bias switching scheme for biomedical applications with dual-range load currents. Power optimization is crucial for systems with multiple activation modes such as neural interfa ...

SPIDER is the 100 keV full-size Negative Ion Source prototype of the ITER Neutral Beam Injector, operating at Consorzio RFX in Padova, Italy. The largest Negative Ion Source in the world, SPIDER generates an RF driven plasma from which Deuterium or Hydroge ...
