The development of a sequential copper-catalyzed oxy-alkynylation/intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition of allenes and arenes was investigated at first. This one-pot protocol allowed the construction of complex polycylic architectures with high efficiency fro ...

In this thesis, we exploited optical and X-ray pump-probe methods in a synergistic approach to study the interplay of the electronic, spin and structural degrees of freedom in two class of complex systems relevant for solar energy conversion applications: ...

CONSPECTUS: Ligand development plays an essential role in the advance of homogeneous catalysis. Tridentate, meridionally coordinating ligands, commonly termed pincer ligands, have been established as a privileged class of ligands in catalysis because they ...

Organic chemistry is essential for the development of a modern society and technical progress requires the continuous development of synthetic methodologies Novel, efficient, selective and flexible protocols are employed to access complex frameworks from s ...

N-formylation of amines with CO2 and hydrosilane reducing agents proceeds via fast and complex chemical equilibria, which hinder easy analysis of the reaction pathways. In situ reaction monitoring and kinetic studies reveal that three proposed pathways, vi ...

α-Diimines are among the most robust and versatile ligands available in synthetic coordination chemistry, possessing finely tunable steric and electronic properties. A series of novel cationic ruthenium(II) p-cymene complexes bearing simple α-diimine ligan ...

Phenolic moieties are common functional groups in organic micropollutants and in dissolved organic matter, and are exposed to ozone during drinking water and wastewater ozonation. Although unsubstituted phenol is known to yield potentially genotoxic p-benz ...

Alkene functionality can be found in the majority of natural products, drugs, catalysts and organic materials. Therefore, methods of C-C double bond formation constitute a cornerstone of organic synthesis. Selective formation of either (Z)- or (E)-isomer i ...

Catalysis fulfills the promise that high-yielding chemical transformations will require little energy and produce no toxic waste. This message is carried by the study of the evolution of molecular catalysis of some of the most important reactions in organi ...

The photophysics and photochemistry of transition metal complexes (TMCs) has long been a hot field of interdisciplinary research. Rich metal-based redox processes, together with a high variety in electronic configurations and excited-state dynamics, have r ...

Regioselective electrophilic substitution reactions of the iridabenzofurans [Ir(C7H5O{OMe-7})(CO)(PPh3)(2)]-[OTf] (1) and IrCl(C7H5O{OMe-7})(PPh3)(2) (2) provide a convenient route to mononitro-, dinitro-, and mixed nitro-/halo- substituted derivatives. Tr ...

The reactions of the tetrasiloxide U(III) complexes [U(OSi(OtBu)3)4K] and [U(OSi(OtBu)3)4][K18c6] with 0.5 equiv. of triphenylphosphine sulfide led to reductive S-transfer reactions, affording the U(IV) sulfide complexes [SU(OSi(OtBu)3)4K2]2, 1, and [{SU(O ...

Phenolic compounds are known structural moieties of natural organic matter (NOM), and their reactivity is a key parameter for understanding the reactivity of NOM and the disinfection by-product formation during oxidative water treatment. In this study, spe ...

Multimetallic cooperative binding of heteroallenes provides an attractive route to their activation, but the reduction of CS2 at heterobimetallic sites, associating an electron-rich metal with a main group Lewis acid has not been explored. Here we show tha ...

Water-soluble ruthenium m-triphenylphosphinetrisulfonate (TPPTS) complexes are excellent catalysts for formic acid dehydrogenation. Interestingly, the choice of metal catalyst precursor has a direct influence on initial activities. The reaction with hexaaq ...

A Lewis acid catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction between donor-acceptor aminocyclopropanes and indoles and other electron-rich aromatic compounds is reported. Indole alkylation at the C3 position was generally obtained for a broad range of functional groups ...

One central aim of nanotechnology is the creation and exploitation of nanostructured materials with pre-programmed architecture and properties. The fabrication of functional nanostructures relies on versatile protocols of synthetic chemistry enabling the p ...

Investigations of blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on [Ir(2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine)(2)(picolinate)] (FIrPic) have pointed to the cleavage of the picolinate as a possible reason for device instability. We reproduced the ...
