The medium-voltage (MV) dual active bridge (DAB) converter with series-connected SiC (S-SiC) MOSFETs is a promising solution for high-power-density isolated dc/dc converter. To improve the voltage sharing and reliability of S-SiC, relatively large snubber ...

The magnet feeders are part of the critical systems of a fusion reactor since they represent the interface between the in-cryostat components at 4.5 K and the room-temperature cryogenic plant and power supply. The European DEMO tokamak foresees 16 toroidal ...

Many future fusion devices will rely heavily, if not solely, on electron cyclotron (EC) heating subsystems to provide bulk heating, instability control (neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) stabilization), and thermal instability control. Efficient use of the i ...

This paper presents an investigation on the possibility of arecanut palm leaf as a biomaterial substrate for various microwave devices such as transmission lines, antenna, filter and a radio frequency identification device (RFID). The dielectric properties ...

An exact analytical expression for the electric field of the return stroke as excited by a propagating step current source is derived in this paper. This expression could be advantageously used to evaluate the disturbances caused by lightning on overhead l ...

Owing to the advancements in the area of power electronics, efficient and flexible ac to dc conversion is made possible, bringing back into focus the idea of the dc power transmission at various voltage levels. Several technical and economical factors advo ...

Gyrotrons are a class of high-power vacuum-electronics microwave sources, which are envisioned to play an important role in the domain of magnetically confined fusion plasmas. Indeed, only gyrotrons are capable of producing continuous electromagnetic waves ...

This paper proposes a tower-foot grounding system model compatible with EMT programs which might be useful for the simulation of lightning transients in overhead lines. The proposed model is based on the solution of the telegrapher's equations and the appl ...

In this article, a series-connected SiC MOSFETs-based medium voltage (MV) dual active bridge (DAB) converter featuring a lowvoltage difference amongdevices and high efficiency is proposed. In the developed DAB converter, the zero voltage switching-on chara ...

Hydropower plants play a crucial role in the power system facing ambitious renewable energy targets. Due to their inherent controllability, they are well suited to provide flexibility to the grid. However, an increased flexibility provision leads to a prol ...

This paper presents a distributed shadow dynamic consensus (DSDC) framework to address the generation company (GENCO) strategic bidding problem in the independent system operator (ISO) operation. First, each sub-group is defined according to the communicat ...

The electron density close to the extraction grids and the co-extracted electrons represent a crucial issue when operating negative ion sources for fusion reactors. An excessive electron density in the plasma expansion region can indeed inhibit the negativ ...

Electron-Cyclotron waves are routinely used in tokamaks to heat the plasma and to drive current through the electron channel. Their unique ability to drive very localized current renders them the main foreseen tool for neoclassical tearing mode mitigation ...

High-temperature superconductors (HTSs) enable exclusive operating conditions for fusion magnets, boosting their performance up to 20 T generated magnetic fields in the temperature range from 4 K to 20 K. One of the main technological issues of HTS conduct ...

The application of radio frequency (RF) vacuum electronics for the betterment of the human condition began soon after the invention of the first vacuum tubes in the 1920s and has not stopped since. Today, microwave vacuum devices are powering important app ...

Fusion occurs when light nuclei combine to form heavier nuclei. The energy released in this process powers the stars and can provide humankind with a safe, sustainable, and clean source of baseload electricity, a valuable tool in the fight against climate ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods are powerful tools employed in many fields, including physics, chemistry, material science, biology, and medicine. The use of NMR methodologies in an even wider range of applications is often hindered by the relativ ...

A correct representation of the lightning current is crucial when the electromagnetic field radiated to a point of interest has to be computed. Based on the engineering models of Transmission Line type, such representation involves the knowledge of the ret ...
