We report the discovery of a complete Einstein ring around the elliptical galaxy NGC 6505, at z = 0.042. This is the first strong gravitational lens discovered in Euclid and the first in an NGC object from any survey. The combination of the low redshift of ...

Cu(I)-phenanthrolines are an important class of metal-organic molecules that exhibits much promise for solar energy harvesting and solar-driven catalysis applications. Although many experimental studies have been performed calling for high-level simulation ...

The ultrafast behavior of the ferrous heme f from the cytochrome b(6)f complex of oxygenic photosynthesis is revealed by means of transient absorption spectroscopy. Benefiting from the use of microfluidic technologies for handling the sample as well as fro ...

The time-window for processing electron spin information (spintronics) in solid-state quantum electronic devices is determined by the spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation times of electrons. Minimizing the effects of spin-orbit coupling and the local magn ...

To meet the future global energy demand - an estimated additional 10 terawatts (TWs) per year in 2050 - a diversification of energy sources and fuels is needed. Solar energy represents a prominent alternative energy source. An important material for these ...

Single-ion magnets (SIMs) are mononuclear molecular complexes exhibiting slow relaxation of magnetization. They are currently attracting a lot of interest because of potential applications in spintronics and quantum information processing. However, exploit ...

Phase contrast imaging (PCI) is an established and powerful technique for measuring density fluctuations in plasmas and has been successfully applied to several fusion devices. Rooted in a concept first developed for microscopy, PCI belongs to the category ...

The first section of the thesis discusses the development and implementation of a two dimensional Fourier transform spectroscopy setup, that permits the recording of electronic 2D spectra in the visible regime. A hollow core fiber was used to generate broa ...

Battery research often encounters the challenge of determining chemical information, such as composition and elemental oxidation states, of a layer buried within a cell stack in a non-destructive manner. Spectroscopic techniques based on X-ray emission or ...

Para-water is an analogue of para-hydrogen, where the two proton spins are in a quantum state that is antisymmetric under permutation, also known as singlet state. The populations of the nuclear spin states in para-water are believed to have long lifetimes ...

Chirality in tellurium arises from a Peierls distortion driven by strong electron-phonon coupling, making this material a unique candidate for observing a light-induced topological phase transition. Using time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy ...

In this work we study in-depth the antireflection and filtering properties of ultrathin-metal-film-based transparent electrodes (MTEs) integrated in thin-film solar cells. Based on numerical optimization of the MTE design and the experimental characterizat ...

Ultrafast excited-state dynamics of planar Pt, Pd, and Ni dithione-dithiolato complexes were investigated by transient absorption spectroscopy on the femtosecond-picosecond timescale. All studied complexes show a common photobehaviour, although individual ...

Low photon extraction efficiency limits the optical spin readout fidelity in emerging quantum sensing technologies in diamond. Here, we propose and fabricate integrated diamond nanoprobes based on cavity-enhanced IR absorption of embedded Nitrogen Vacancy ...

In this thesis work we explore spin dependent processes and charge dynamics in α-NPD/Alq₃ based LEDs. Studies on polymer light emitting diodes based on PFO, which are fabricated by us, are also reported. Our objective is to shed light on the fundamental me ...

Thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) on an insulator is a promising platform for nonlinear photonic integrated circuits (PICs) due to its strong light confinement, high second-order nonlinearity, and flexible quasi-phase-matching for three-wave mixing processe ...

Spatially resolved photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) imaging technologies play a crucial role in evaluating the performance and stability of photovoltaic devices. However, their application in perovskite devices presents unique challenges ...

The development of conjugated materials bearing electron-rich and electron-poor units along their backbone introduces new possibilities to control functionality for organic electronic applications through charge transfer character in ground and excited sta ...

Hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) is a material with a very good radiation hardness and with the possibility of deposition on flexible substrates like Polyimide (PI). Exploiting these properties, the HASPIDE (Hydrogenated Amorphous Silicon PIxels DEt ...

In the spin-crossover compound Fe(6-mepy)(3)tren(2), (6-mepy)(3)tren=tris{4-[(6-methyl)-2-pyridyl]-3-aza-butenyl}amine, the high-spin state can be populated as a metastable state below the thermal transition temperature via irradiation into the meta ...
