Context: The use of evidence in policymaking can take various forms, and resorting to quantitative indicators is one of them. In the past 30 years, a plethora of indicator-based initiatives for assessing and monitoring progress towards sustainability have ...

The first observation of the suppressed semileptonic B-s(0) -> K-mu(+)nu(mu) decay is reported. Using a data sample recorded in pp collisions in 2012 with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb(-1), the branching fraction B(B- ...

The CKM angle gamma is measured for the first time from mixing-induced CP violation between Bs0 -> Ds -/+ K pi +/- pi -/+ and Bs0 -> Ds +/- K -/+ pi -/+ pi +/- decays reconstructed in proton-proton collision data corresponding to an in ...

The variation of pressure of the blood is a key parameter in the development of ventricular assist device. This latter is useful in order to synchronize the behavior of the actuator with the cardiac frequency. This paper presents a sensor made of a dielect ...

In this dissertation, we consider the problem of assigning spectrum to wireless local-area networks (WLANs). In line with recent IEEE 802.11 amendments and newer hardware capabilities, we consider situations where wireless nodes have the ability to adapt n ...

Dynamics is a central aspect of ski jumping, particularly during take-off and stable flight. Currently, measurement systems able to measure ski jumping dynamics (e.g., 3D cameras, force plates) are complex and only available in few research centres worldwi ...

We present the first model-independent measurement of the absolute branching fraction of the Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+)decay using a data sample of 978 fb(-1) collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The number of ...

The biomechanical analysis of swimming always faced impeding factors of measurement in the aquatic environment. Our current knowledge of swimming locomotion is very much owing to employing video cameras to capture the body kinematics. Nevertheless, the rec ...

We report the measurement of the branching fraction, the polarization, and the parameters of the time-dependent CP violation in B-0 -> D*(+) D*(-) decays using a data sample of 772 x 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs, collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with th ...

A sample of 114 +/- 11 B-s(0) -> J/psi K- pi(+) signal events obtained with 0.37 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment is used to measure the branching fraction and polarization amplitudes of the B-s(0) -> J/psi(K) over ...

In single- and two-phase flow heat exchangers (in particular "coils"), besides the straight tubes there are also many singularities, in particular the 180° return bends (also called return bends or U-bends). However, contrary to the literature concerning p ...

Acoustic Doppler instrument measurements suffer from random spikes and Doppler noise. Using a four-receiver ADV (acoustic Doppler velocimeter; Vectrino manufactured by Nortek) that allows recording beam velocities, we combine a spike-removal procedure on t ...

We present a measurement of the decay B- -> tau(-)(nu) over bar (tau) using a data sample containing 657 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the gamma(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. A sample of ...
