Curves on surfaces play an important role in computer aided geometric design. In this paper, we present a parabola approximation method based on the cubic reparameterization of rational Bezier surfaces, which generates G1 continuous approximate curves lyin ...

Image registration is the concept of mapping homologous points in a pair of images. In other words, one is looking for an underlying deformation field that matches one image to a target image. The spectrum of applications of image registration is extremely ...

The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2018 is the sixth annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of over eighty trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences ...

Biofilms are a most successful microbial lifestyle and prevail in a multitude of environmental and engineered settings. Understanding biofilm morphogenesis, that is the structural diversification of biofilms during community assembly, represents a remarkab ...

Recovering the 3D shape of a nonrigid surface from a single viewpoint is known to be both ambiguous and challenging. Resolving the ambiguities typically requires prior knowledge about the most likely deformations that the surface may undergo. It often take ...

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and white matter (WM) signal suppression techniques allow better visualization of both WM and gray matter (GM) lesions in such disorders as multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. Recently, a technique, FLuid And White matter Suppression ...

This paper aims at understanding the adhesion mechanics of a pressure-controlled adhesive thin elastomeric membrane for soft robotic gripping on non-planar, curved surfaces. The adhesive elastic membrane is lined with gecko-inspired microfiber arrays and c ...

Despite being a powerful medical imaging technique which does not emit any ionizing radiation, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) always had the major problem of long scanning times that can take up to an hour depending on the application. It also requires u ...

In this paper we define a scale-space for cortical mean curvature maps on the sphere, that offers a hierarchical representation of the brain cortical structures, useful in multi-scale registration and analysis algorithms. A spherical feature map is obtaine ...

The coordinate transformation technique is applied to the design of perfect lenses and superlenses. In particular, anisotropic metamaterials that magnify two-dimensional planar images beyond the diffraction limit are designed by the use of oblate spheroida ...

Ongoing advances in imaging techniques create new demands regarding the analysis of images in medicine and biology. Image segmentation is a key step of many image analysis pipelines and its proper execution is a particularly challenging task. This thesis i ...

This paper focuses on practical aspects when performing boresight calibration in airborne laser scanning using rigorous methodology implemented in LIBOR software. LIBOR technique, introduced by (Skaloud and Lichti, 2006), is based on expressing the boresig ...

Digital silicon photo-multipliers (SiPMs) have emerged in the recent past as a viable low cost alternative to photomultiplier tubes in positron emission tomography systems, providing multiple timestamps, energy and scintillation coordinates at high spatial ...

In the last years, three-dimensional (3D) medical imaging techniques have taken an increasing importance in patient care and medical research. Volume images provide medical specialists with a direct access to the interior of a patient's body and reduce the ...

The human brain consists of approximately a hundred billion of neurons that communicate through a unique series of biochemical and electrical processes. When neuronal networks are solicited, electrochemical processes happen involving millions of cells with ...

This thesis presents a methodology for the design optimization of hydraulic runner blades. The originality of the methodology comes from the geometric definition of the blade shapes, which uses parametric surfaces instead of a set of profiles. The main adv ...

The aim of this paper is to apply a surface parameterization to a blade. This geometric representation should be used as a practical tool in the process of design optimization. Most parameterizations are based on blade section approaches. The parameters ar ...

Deployable structures are physical mechanisms that can easily transition between two or more geometric configurations; such structures enable industrial, scientific, and consumer applications at a wide variety of scales. This paper develops novel deployabl ...

Flows of fluids with free surfaces show complex dynamical behavior. Examples include effects like capillary surface waves, topological transitions such as droplet breakup and coalescence, or pattern formation in wetting and de-wetting dynamics. These compl ...
