Over the past 3 decades, phononic crystals experienced revolutionary development for understanding and utilizing mechanical waves by exploring interaction between mechanical waves and structures. With the significant advances in manufacture technologies fr ...

Protection against electrostatic discharges requires knowledge of the discharge-current path. Thanks to the time-reversal technique combined with a GHz-range resonant metalens, we present an experimental gateway to imaging subwavelength interference source ...

Electromagnetic time reversal is commonly used for field imaging and focusing. This Letter builds upon the concept of the time -reversal cavity, which constitutes the main theoretical framework of time reversal theory. We study the behavior of the fields u ...

This paper presents a broadband dual-polarized substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antenna. It is analytically shown that by decreasing the permittivity of a dielectricloaded slot antenna, the resulting bandwidth increases significantly, where the wi ...

Integrated microring resonators are well suited for wavelength-filtering applications in optical signal processing, and cascaded microring resonators allow flexible filter design in coupledresonator optical waveguide (CROW) configurations. However, the imp ...

Optical resonators enable the generation, manipulation, and storage of electromagnetic waves. The physics underlying their operation is determined by the interference of electromagnetic waves, giving rise to the resonance spectrum. This mechanism causes th ...

The Transfer Matrix formalism is ubiquitous when it comes to study wave propagation in various stratified media, applications ranging from Seismology to Quantum Mechanics. A relation between variables at two points in two different layers can be establishe ...

Environmental noise, mostly related to human activities, has an immense impact on public health. The development of noise reduction technologies is paramount in addressing this problem. Because of practical and economic reasons, a compact, broadband, light ...

Global spectral methods offer the potential to compute solutions of partial differential equations numerically to very high accuracy. In this work, we develop a novel global spectral method for linear partial differential equations on cubes by extending th ...

A passive device comprising a hollow waveguide including first and second wall structures extending in a guiding direction, an interconnecting base extending between the wall structures and an enclosure extending between the wall structures, the enclosure ...

Stable semiconductor photoelectrodes for water splitting often exhibit long absorption lengths and poor properties for the efficient separation and transport of photogenerated charges. We propose a combination of resonant and geometric light trapping for t ...

Using a semianalytic guided-mode expansion technique, we present theory and analysis of intrinsic propagation losses for topological photonic crystal slab waveguide structures with modified honeycomb lattices of circular or triangular holes. Although conve ...

The integration of new materials mediating light-matter interaction in nanoscale devices is a persistent goal in nanophotonics. One of these materials is Gallium phosphide, which offers an attractive combination of a high refractive index (n=3.05 at a wave ...

Intensive developments of plasmonic nanomaterials over recent decades have inspired appealing applications in biosensing, optical trapping, fluorescence enhancement and light harvesting in solar cells. These nanostructures supporting unique light-matter in ...

Though obliquely incident plane wave across rock fractures has been extensively investigated by theoretical analysis, the quantitative identification of each wave emerged from fractures has not been achieved either in numerical simulation or laboratory exp ...

The purpose of this study is to analytically predict and to experimentally investigate the seismic response of adjacent filled parallel rock fractures with dissimilar properties (e.g., fracture thickness and stiffness). The time-domain recursive method is ...

Terahertz radiation, THz = 1012 Hz, refers to electromagnetic signals with frequencies in the range of 0.3 to 3 THz, and wavelengths between 1 and 0.1 mm. This part of the electromagnetic spectrum is located in between millimeter waves at lower frequencies ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate new architectures to realize multi-tap microwave photonic filters, based on the generation of a single or multiple dynamic Brillouin gratings in polarization maintaining fibers. The spectral range and selectivity o ...

Rock joints are often filled with weak medium, for example, saturated clay or sand, of viscoelastic nature. Their effects on wave propagation can be modelled as displacement and stress discontinuity conditions. The viscoelastic behaviour of the filled join ...
