5G New Radio (NR) has stringent demands on both performance and complexity for the design of low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoding algorithms and corresponding VLSI implementations. Furthermore, decoders must fully support the wide range of all 5G NR bl ...

Reed-Muller (RM) codes achieve the capacity of general binary-input memoryless symmetric channels and are conjectured to have a comparable performance to that of random codes in terms of scaling laws. However, such results are established assuming maximum- ...

The de-facto standard decoding algorithm for polar codes, successive cancellation list (SCL) decoding, is a breadth-first search algorithm. By keeping a list of candidate codewords, SCL decoding improves the performance as the list size L increases. Howeve ...

This paper investigates the problem of secret key generation from correlated Gaussian random variables in the short blocklength regime. Short blocklengths are commonly employed in massively connected IoT sensor networks in 5G and beyond wireless systems. P ...

LoRaWAN is a low-power wireless technology that provides long-range connectivity to battery-powered Internet of Things (IoT) devices. To minimize the energy consumption of the IoT nodes, LoRaWAN networks use for the uplink a pure non-slotted ALOHA multiple ...

This paper investigates the problem of secret key generation from correlated Gaussian random variables in the short block-length regime. Inspired by the state-of-the-art performance provided by polar codes in the short blocklength regime for channel coding ...

We propose a new class of efficient decoding algorithms for Reed-Muller (RM) codes over binary-input memoryless channels. The algorithms are based on projecting the code on its cosets, recursively decoding the projected codes (which are lower-order RM code ...

We experimentally demonstrate Kramers-Kronig detection of four 20 Gbaud 16-quadrature-amplitude-modulated (QAM) channels after 50 km fiber transmission using two soliton Kerr combs as signal sources and local oscillators. The estimated carrier phase at the ...

In this work, we study the coded frame error rate (FER) of LoRa under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and under carrier frequency offset (CFO). To this end, we use existing approximations for the bit error rate (BER) of the LoRa modulation under AWGN ...

We present a practical strategy that aims to attain rate points on the dominant face of the multiple access channel capacity using a standard low complexity decoder. This technique is built upon recent theoretical developments of Zhu and Gastpar on compute ...

In his landmark paper "A Mathematical Theory of Communication," the founding father of information theory and coding theory, Claude E. Shannon, established the largest rate at which reliable communication is possible and he revealed that the key to this re ...

The concepts of pseudocodeword and pseudoweight play a fundamental role in the finite-length analysis of LDPC codes. The pseudoredundancy of a binary linear code is defined as the minimum number of rows in a parity-check matrix such that the corresponding ...

Reed-Muller (RM) codes were introduced in 1954 and have long been conjectured to achieve Shannon's capacity on symmetric channels. The activity on this conjecture has recently been revived with the emergence of polar codes. RM codes and polar codes are gen ...

We experimentally demonstrate three-fold wavelength multicasting of a 64-quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM), 120-Gbit/s data channel using a microresonator Kerr frequency comb and nonlinear wave mixing. The multicasting is achieved with a data signal an ...

Computation codes in network information theory are designed for scenarios where the decoder is not interested in recovering the information sources themselves, but only a function thereof. Körner and Marton showed for distributed source coding (DSC) that ...

In this letter, we describe an LDPC code design framework for the unequal power two-user Gaussian multiple access channel using EXIT charts. We show that the sumrate of the LDPC codes designed using our approach can get close to the maximal sum-rate of the ...

The implementation of a 25.6-Gb/s four-level pulse-amplitude-modulation (4-PAM) reduced-state sliding-block Viterbi detector (VD) is presented. The power consumption of the VD is 105 orilV at a supply voltage of 0.7 V, corresponding to an energy efficiency ...

Polar codes are capacity-achieving error-correcting codes with an explicit construction that can be decoded with low-complexity algorithms. In this work, we show how the state-of-the-art low-complexity decoding algorithm can be improved to better accommoda ...

Polar codes represent one of the major recent breakthroughs in coding theory and, because of their attractive features, they have been selected for the incoming SG standard. As such, a lot of attention has been devoted to the development of decoding algori ...

Polar codes are a recent family of error-correcting codes with a number of desirable characteristics. Their disruptive nature is illustrated by their rapid adoption in the 5 th-generation mobile-communication standard, where they are used to protect contro ...
