A fine balance of quiescence, self-renewal, and differentiation is key to preserve the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) pool and maintain lifelong production of all mature blood cells. In recent years cellular metabolism has emerged as a crucial regulator of ...

Although ferrocene derivatives have attracted considerable attention as possible anticancer agents, the medicinal potential of diiron complexes has remained largely unexplored. Herein, we describe the straightforward multigram-scale synthesis and the antip ...

Proper mitochondrial function plays a central role in cellular metabolism. Various diseases as well as aging are associated with diminished mitochondrial function. Previously, we identified 19 miRNAs putatively involved in the regulation of mitochondrial m ...

New dendritic silica/titania mesoporous nanoparticles (DSTNs) loaded with curcumin (CUR) were synthesized and coated with polyethylenimine-folic acid groups (PEI-FA) for an ultrasound (US)-triggered drug release and combined chemo-sonodynamic therapy. The ...

Integral and peripheral membrane proteins account for one-third of the human proteome, and they are estimated to represent the target for over 50% of modern medicinal drugs. Despite their central role in medicine, the complex, heterogeneous and dynamic nat ...

Background The edible fruit Annona cherimola has previously shown many nutritional and medicinal properties. The current study evaluates the anti-cancer and anti-proliferative properties of Annona cherimola ethanolic leaf extract (AELE) on Acute Myeloid Le ...

Glucose sensing and regulation of insulin secretion are the two main functions performed by the pancreatic beta-cell. Together these processes contribute to the tight control of blood glucose in our body. Compromising the ability of the beta-cells to prope ...

The ability to respond to fluctuations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) within the cell is a central aspect of mammalian physiology. This dynamic process depends on the coordinated action of transcriptional factors to promote the expression of genes encodi ...

Cellular uptake and intracellular trafficking of polymer conjugates or polymer nanoparticles is typically monitored using fluorescence-based techniques such as confocal microscopy. While these methods have provided a wealth of insight into the internalizat ...

Targeted cancer therapy is a very promising concept; however, small molecule inhibitors only exist for a limited number of oncoproteins and resistance development limits their clinical use. Different engineered non-antibody scaffolds are being explored to ...

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are responsible for the life-long maintenance of our blood system. Their long-term capacity to both self-renew and differentiate and the ability to efficiently â homeâ to their bone marrow niches when injected in the blood ...

The dinuclear anticancer agents 1,n-bis{chlorido3-(oxo-kappa O)-2-methyl-4-(1H)-pyridinonato-kappa O4-ruthenium(II)}alkane (PyRu2n) exhibit high antiproliferative activity in human cancer cell. Reactivity studies with DNA and protein rev ...

Current thesis summarizes the work on development of novel bioluminescent probes for measurement of activity of dipeptidylpep-tidase-4 (DPP-4) and for quantification of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). DPP-4 enzyme plays critical role in develop-men ...

Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD) is a fatal hypomyelinating disorder characterized by early impairment of motor development, nystagmus, choreoathetotic movements, ataxia and progressive spasticity. PMD is caused by variations in the proteolipid protein g ...
