Solar-driven carbon dioxide reduction has witnessed a renaissance in the past decades, but the system suffers from low reaction rates. Here the authors develop a copper/tin-oxide electrocatalyst, achieving a new benchmark solar-to-CO energy conversion effi ...

Earth has always been in perpetual evolution, but today we must face its rapid change due to human activity. The intensification of industrial activities and transportation to support our modern lifestyles are the main causes of climate change and the adve ...

Clean energy is highly needed at this time when the energy requirements are rapidly increasing. The observed increasing energy requirement are largely due to continued industrialization and global population explosion. The current means of energy source is ...

The contact nature when monolayer blue phosphorus (blueP) interfaces with three transition metal electrodes (i. e., Pd, Ir, and Pt) was unraveled by the ab initio density functional theory calculations. Specifically, n-type Schottky contact is observed for ...

The energy transition towards a carbon-neutral and sustainable economy is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century to combat global warming and pollution. The decarbonization process is affecting every sector of the economy (electricity, transpor ...

Hydrogen is considered as the "holy grail" for the energy community. One of the most promising strategies to produce hydrogen is to split water using renewable energy such as solar radiation. The abundance of water and solar energy enables the potential of ...

Hydrogen (H-2) has been widely considered the clean energy carrier of choice for emerging renewable energy generation technologies. However, H-2 is a secondary fuel mainly derived from natural gas. Over the past decades, research on developing H-2 producti ...

Mn-Ce/AC catalysts for low-temperature NH3-SCR of NOx were deliberately loaded with various potassium salts (KCl, KNO3, and K2SO4) to investigate the influence of the counter-ions on the poisoning impact. Whereas K salts poisoning had only marginal impact ...

One of the key elements to improve mainstream crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cell performance is surface passivation, which is at the center of the ongoing transition from cells with direct silicon-metal contacts to full area passivating contacts. In the ...

In this article, the effect of the various processing steps during the fabrication of c-Si/SiOx/SiCx fired passivating contacts on the silicon bulk lifetime is studied, and the kinetics of defect deactivation by hydrogenation is investigated. It is found t ...

Electrochemical reactions involving electron/proton transfer occur in several technologically relevant environments, such as solar cells, energy conversion, and storage devices. In these systems, the electron/proton transfer is governed by the applied bias ...

Renewable energy supply and energy storage in a closed materials cycle are the urgent global challenges of the 21st century. Carbon dioxide (CO2) hydrogenation over catalysts is a method to produce synthetic fuels from renewable energy in a CO2 neutral cyc ...
