The mechanism of aggregation-induced emission, which overcomes the common aggregation-caused quenching problem in organic optoelectronics, is revealed by monitoring the real time structural evolution and dynamics of electronic excited state with frequency ...

Conventional therapeutics are often limited by their targeting ability, resulting in harmful and potential fatal side-effects for the patients. Recently, new strategies have been developed to improve target specificity of drugs in order to generate more ef ...

It is difficult to develop suitable fluorescent probes for live-cell nanoscopy, but a general strategy is now reported that can transform regular fluorophores into fluorogenic probes with excellent cell permeability and low unspecific background signals. U ...

The strength of the electron-hole interaction in bulk semiconductors is not only determined by the dielectric environment, but also depends on the presence of other quasiparticles - free charge carriers or phonons - that populate the system. In the former ...

Delayed fluorescence (DF) is a long-lived luminescence process used in a variety of applications ranging from oxygen sensing in biological tissues to organic Light Emitting Diodes. In common cases, DF results from the deexcitation of the first excited trip ...

This study focused on the effects of ozonation on the photochemical and photophysical properties of dissolved organic matter (DOM). Upon ozonation, a decrease in DOM absorbance was observed in parallel with an increase in singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) and fluore ...

Fluorescence microscopy is the method of choice to monitor dynamic processes in living cells due to its non-invasive nature. A variety of different fluorophores and labeling systems are currently used to selectively visualise structures or biomolecules of ...

Au cours des 50 dernières années, les développements technologiques dans le domaine des transports et des télécommunications ont contribué à reconfigurer les comportements spatio-temporels (Kaufmann, 2008). Les individus bénéficient ainsi d’un large univer ...

Recognizing existing materials that can act as proxies for Earth's building blocks, and understanding the accretionary pathway taken during Earth's growth, persist as outstanding issues in need of resolution. In Mahan, Siebert, Blanchard, Badro, et al. (20 ...

Cellular uptake and intracellular trafficking of polymer conjugates or polymer nanoparticles is typically monitored using fluorescence-based techniques such as confocal microscopy. While these methods have provided a wealth of insight into the internalizat ...

Intersystem crossing (ISC) rates of transition-metal complexes are determined by the complex interplay of a molecule's electronic and structural dynamics. To broaden our understanding of these key factors, we investigate the case of the prototypical d(8)-d ...

We report a dual-contrast method of simultaneously measuring and visualizing the volumetric structural information in live biological samples in three-dimensional (3D) space. By introducing a direct way of deriving the 3D scattering potential of the object ...

Bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) was introduced a decade ago as a method to monitor alpha-synuclein (alpha-syn) oligomerization in intact cells. Since then, several alpha-syn BiFC cellular assays and animal models have been developed based o ...

Chiral cyclopentadienyl (Cp-x) group 9 metal complexes have become versatile catalysts for a variety of efficient enantioselective C-H functionalizations. Atropchiral binaphthyl-derived Cp-x ligands having tuning options at the 3,3'-positions present a rob ...

In situ hybridization is used to visualize the spatial distribution of gene transcripts in tissues and in embryos, providing important information about disease and development. Current methods involve the use of complementary riboprobes incorporating non- ...

Unraveling the interplay between electronic- and vibrational degrees of freedom on the earliest time scales of physical, chemical and biological processes is crucial to gaining insight into the mechanisms that govern the world around us, since it is during ...
