Microcomputed tomography (mu CT) is a nondestructive X-ray imaging method used in plant physiology to visualize in situ plant tissues that enables assessments of embolized xylem vessels. Whereas evidence for X-ray-induced cellular damage has been reported, ...

In situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is a powerful technique for the investigation of heterogeneous catalysts and electrocatalysts. The obtained XAS spectra are usually interpreted from the point of view of the investigated chemical processes, there ...

1,2-Bis(2'-nitrophenoxy)-3-R-benzenes {R = H (1), CH3 (2) and OCH3 (3)} have been prepared from the S-N-Ar reaction between 1-fluoro-2-nitrobenzene and 3-R-catechol (aromatic diol), and are then reduced to the corresponding diamines 1,2-bis(2'-aminophenoxy ...

Trigonal tellurium, a small-gap semiconductor with pronounced magneto-electric and magneto-optical responses, is among the simplest realizations of a chiral crystal. We have studied by spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy its unconventional ...

Recent Advances: Herein, we focus on the first step of this process, electrophile sensing. Electrophile sensing is typically a deceptively simple reaction between the thiol of a protein cysteine, of which there are around 200,000 in the human proteome, and ...

N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are the ligands of choice in a large variety of transformations entailing different transition metals. However, the number and variety of chiral NHCs suitable as stereo-controlling ligands in asymmetric catalysis remains limi ...

The enantiopure Schiff bases (R or S)-N-1-( phenyl)ethyl-2,4-X-1,X2(-)salicylaldimine (X-1, X-2 = Cl, Br, I) coordinate to copper(II) and provide pseudotetrahedral bis[(S or R)-N-1-(phenyl)ethyl-(2,4-X-1,X-2-salicylaldiminato.2N,O)]-./.-Cu(II) (kappa N-2,O ...

The utility of molecular actuators in nanoelectronics requires activation of mechanical motion by electric charge at the interface with conductive surfaces. We functionalized redox-active resorcin[4]arene-quinone cavitands with thioethers as surface-anchor ...

The Bernina instrument at the SwissFEL Aramis hard X-ray free-electron laser is designed for studying ultrafast phenomena in condensed matter and material science. Ultrashort pulses from an optical laser system covering a large wavelength range can be used ...

Chiral sulfoximines with stereogenic sulfur atoms are promising motifs in drug discovery. We report an efficient method to access chiral sulfoximines through a C-H functionalization based kinetic resolution. A rhodium(III) complex equipped with a chiral Cp ...

We compare two reactor setups commonly used to make operando measurements of catalyst behavior using X-rays in terms of the degree to which they may be considered to yield radial and axial isothermality. We use axial and radial Cu K-edge XANES mapping of c ...

We consider a relativistic plasma of fermions coupled to an Abelian gauge field and carrying a chiral charge asymmetry, which might arise in the early Universe through baryogenesis. It is known that on large length scales, lambda greater than or similar to ...

Coordination-directed self-assembly has become a well-established technique for the construction of functional supramolecular structures. In contrast to the most often exploited transition metals, trivalent lanthanides Ln(III) have been less utilized in th ...

‘Venice Time Machine’ is an international program whose objective is transforming the ‘Archivio di Stato’ – 80 km of archival records documenting every aspect of 1000 years of Venetian history – into an open-access digital information bank. Our study is pa ...

The neutral dinuclear complexes [(eta(5)-C5Me5)(2)Rh-2(mu-dhnq)Cl-2] (1) and [(eta(5)-C5Me5)(2)Ir-2(mu-dhnq)Cl-2] (2) (dhnqH(2) = 5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) were obtained from the reaction of (eta(5)-C5Me5)M(mu-Cl)Cl (M = Rh, Ir) with dhnqH(2) ...

This thesis is divided in four independent parts related to four different research projects. Each chapter describes one of the multiple aspects covered by organic chemistry, such as the generation of functional interfaces, understanding of biological proc ...

The sporolide quinone acid is a key fragment in the biosynthesis of the complex heptacyclic marine metabolite sporolide. We report a concise enantioselective route to this fragment, which is obtained in seven steps with 65% overall yield from trimethoxyben ...

The enantiomerically pure pinene-bipyridine-based receptor, (-) or (+) L-, diastereoselectively self-assembles in dry acetonitrile in the presence of Ln(III) ions (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, and Tb) to give a C-3-symmetrical, pyramidal architecture with ...

The montmorillonite-catalyzed reactions of the 5′-phosphorimidazolides of D, L-adenosine (D, L-ImpA) (Figure 1a. N = A, R = H) and D, L-uridine (Figure 1a., N = U, R = H) yields oligomers that were as long as 7 mers and 6 mers, respectively. The reactions ...

Reaction of [Ru(η6-p-cymene)Cl2]2 with two equivalents of [Ph4P][Cl] in CH2Cl2 yields [Ph4P][Ru(η6-p-cymene)Cl3], containing a trichlororuthenate(II) anion. ...
