Inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors are widely used for motion analysis in sports and rehabilitation. The attachment of IMU sensors to predefined body segments and sides (left/right) is complex, time-consuming, and error-prone. Methods for solving the ...

Effective fall-detection and classification systems are vital in mitigating severe medical and economical consequences of falls to people in the fall risk groups. One class of such systems is based on wearable sensors. While there is a vast amount of acade ...

Background: There is a lack of objective and reliable tools to measure walking performance in children with cerebral palsy (CP). ...

Centimetre level precision mapping is essential for many applications such as land-use, infrastructure inspection, cultural heritage preservation, and construction site monitoring. However, the acquisition and its preparation (in particular the setting of ...

Wearable electronic circuits based on the films of gallium and its alloys offer promising implementations in health monitoring and gaming sensing applications. However, the complex rheology of liquid metals makes it challenging to manufacture thin gallium‐ ...

Inertial sensors are increasingly being employed in different types of applications. The reduced cost and the extremely small size makes them the number-one-choice in miniature embedded devices like phones, watches, and small unmanned aerial vehicles. The ...

Stroke, or cerebral-vascular accident is the leading cause of disabilities in the western world. It primarily affects mobility due to a degradation of principal motor functions such as balance and gait. This reduction of mobility directly impacts the spect ...

Dynamics is a central aspect of ski jumping, particularly during take-off and stable flight. Currently, measurement systems able to measure ski jumping dynamics (e.g., 3D cameras, force plates) are complex and only available in few research centres worldwi ...

The biomechanical analysis of swimming always faced impeding factors of measurement in the aquatic environment. Our current knowledge of swimming locomotion is very much owing to employing video cameras to capture the body kinematics. Nevertheless, the rec ...

Tripping is considered a major cause of fall in older people. Therefore, foot clearance (i.e., height of the foot above ground during swing phase) could be a key factor to better understand the complex relationship between gait and falls. This paper presen ...

Stochastic modeling is a challenging task for low-cost sensors whose errors can have complex spectral structures. This makes the tuning process of the INS/GNSS Kalman filter often sensitive and difficult. For example, first-order Gauss–Markov processes are ...

We present a novel MEMS inertial sensor that directly measures the gravity gradient in order to sense the relative orientation of a satellite with respect to the Earth. An Earths ensor provides an orbiting satellite with a vector towards the Earth center. ...
