In aqueous solutions, a charged surface causes the redistribution of nearby ions. The ion layers formed are known as the electrical double layer (EDL), and are widespread in many systems involving electrochemistry, colloidal science, biomedicine, and energ ...

Since 2020, synchrotron radiation facilities in several Asia-Pacific countries have been collaborating in a major project called "SYNAPSE"(Synchrotrons for Neuroscience: an Asia-Pacific Scientific Enterprise). They use x-ray imaging to attack in a coordina ...

Nanoparticles (NPs) developments advance innovative biomedical applications. However, complex interactions and the low colloidal stability of NPs in biological media restrict their widespread utilization. The influence of NPs properties on the colloidal st ...

An overarching computational framework unifying several optical theories to describe the temporal evolution of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) during a seeded growth process is presented. To achieve this, we used the inexpensive and widely available optical exti ...

This paper presents a novel approach for the fabrication of miniaturized and fully printed metal-oxide (MOX) gas sensors on a polyimide (PI) substrate by using digital manufacturing of the functional layers, namely aerosol jet and inkjet printing technolog ...

Reliable, low cost, and accessible drug monitoring systems for individualized healthcare, especially chemotherapy for malignant diseases like prostate cancer and AIDS, are highly desira-ble. This is even more critical for drugs like abiraterone and TFV, wi ...

A library of polymer-coated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) differing in size and surface modifications was examined for uptake and induction of cellular stress responses in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER stress) in human brain endothelial cells (hCMEC/D3). ER s ...

Soft or “liquid-liquid” interfaces were functionalized by half a monolayer of mirror-like nanofilms of gold nanoparticles using a precise interfacial microinjection method. The surface coverage of the nanofilm was characterized by ion transfer voltammetry. ...

Anionic, monolayer-protected gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been shown to nondisruptively penetrate cellular membranes. Here, we show that a critical first step in the penetration process is potentially the fusion of such AuNPs with lipid bilayers. Free e ...

The emerging importance of nanoparticle technology, including iron oxide nanoparticles for monitoring development, progression, and treatment of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, drives development of imaging techniques. Studies require an imaging p ...

There has been a lack of quick, simple and reliable methods for determination of nanoparticle size. An investigation of the size of hydrophobic (CdSe) and hydrophilic (CdSe/ZnS) quantum dots was performed by using the maximum position of the corresponding ...

Topographic nanostructuring of surfaces is a promising concept, in particular to improve the bio-integration of titanium orthopedic implants. In this context, a new method for the nanostructuring of anodised titanium surfaces was developed. Ordered topogra ...

We introduce a new method for performing and miniaturizing many types of heterogeneous catalysis involving nanoparticles. The method makes use of the plasmon resonance present in nanoscale metal catalysts to provide the necessary heat of reaction when illu ...

Functionalized nanoparticles (NPs) are presently under intensive study aimed at creating useful tools for molecular diagnosis, therapy, and biotechnology. ...

We explored a very interesting gold nanoparticle system-pegylated gold in colloidal solution-and analyzed its uptake by mice colorectal adenocarcinoma CT26 tumor cells and the impact on the cell's response to x-ray irradiation. We found that exposure to po ...

Particle size should be optimized to achieve targeted and extended drug delivery to the affected tissues. We describe here the effects of the mean particle size on the pharmacokinetics and photothrombic activity of meso-tetra(carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) ...

Nanoparticles can be stabilized by an ionic liq. polymer (ILP) composed of imidazolium units incorporating a hydrophobic benzyl group. The resulting gold, platinum, and palladium nanoparticles can be efficiently transferred from water to ionic liqs. by exc ...
