We report on single crystal diamond micro-disk resonators fabricated in bulk chemical vapor deposition diamond plates (3 mm x 3 mm x 0.15 mm) using a combination of deep reactive ion etching and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) milling. The resulting structures are ...

The very concept of high-T-c superconductivity has originated from the discovery of superconductivity in copper oxides by Bednorz and Muller in 1986. Soon after their discovery, cuprates were recognized as undoubtedly complex and radically unconventional s ...

The structural, electronic, and dielectric properties of barrier -type anodic Al oxides prepared with various thicknesses have been investigated. The planar and cross morphologies as well as the surface charge distribution were investigated as a function o ...

Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) in horizontal configuration could provide a path for scalable NW-based devices. Bottom-up large-scale manufacturing of these nanostructures by selective area epitaxy (SAE) relies on precise nanopatterning of various shapes on ...

Existing sliding tribocorrosion models have been developed for homogeneous passive metals such as stainless steel and pure metals. Many technical alloys contains however second phases, usually much harder than the metallic matrix, intended to provide bette ...

In this paper we present the Open Software Services for Classrooms and Research (OSSCAR) platform. OSSCAR provides an open collaborative environment to develop and access educational resources in the form of web applications, for which various deployment m ...

The current study aims to elucidate the possible reasons for the significantly different pharmacological behavior of platinum(IV) complexes with cisplatin-, carboplatin- or nedaplatin-like cores and how this difference can be related to their main physicoc ...

Ternary-based titanium nitride (TiN) thin films have drawn attention toward rational applications due to their wear resistance, high hardness, and corrosion resistance. The influence of Mo content on the structural, tribo-logical, and mechanical properties ...

Due to a distortion of its hexagonal unit cell along the c-axis compared to hexagonal-close-packed metals (c/a = 1.856 instead of 1.633), zinc is characterised by a large anisotropy of its solid-liquid interfacial energy. While previous studies have focuse ...

Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) flow with the actuator disc (AD) for turbine modelling is a widely used method of simulating wind farm flows. Hence, it is important to understand the requirements for achieving a good compar ...

Lifetime and durability issues connected with Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology are strongly related to the amount of contaminants that reach the stack. In this study the focus is on organic silicon compounds (siloxanes) and their highly detrimental ...

Ideal magnetic frustration forms the basis for the emergence of exotic quantum spin states that are entirely nonmagnetic. Such singlet spin states are the defining feature of the Shastry-Sutherland model, and of its faithful materials realization in the qu ...

Passively fed ionic liquid electrospray sources are capable of efficiently emitting a variety of ion beams with promising applications to spacecraft propulsion and as focused ion beams. Practical devices will require integrated or coupled ionic liquid rese ...

Identification of the most stable structure(s) of a system is a prerequisite for the calculation of any of its properties from first-principles. However, even for relatively small molecules, exhaustive explorations of the potential energy surface (PES) are ...

The coupling of atmospheric pressure ionization (API) sources like electrospray ionization (ESI) to vacuum based applications like mass spectrometry (MS) or ion beam deposition (IBD) is done by differential pumping, starting with a capillary or pinhole inl ...

Solid-state qubits can be implemented with electrostatically confined quantum dots in semiconductors, allowing gate voltages to independently control the electrochemical potentials of each quantum dot. Quantum dots offer high levels of reliability and scal ...

In the quest of the structural materials for the future fusion reactor, it has been shown that ferritic/martensitic (F/M) steels are very promising candidates, with a good radiation resistance in terms of damage accumulation in the microstructure relative ...

Population equations for infinitely large networks of spiking neurons have a long tradition in theoret-ical neuroscience. In this work, we analyze a recent generalization of these equations to populations of finite size, which takes the form of a nonlinear ...

The structure of solid-ionic liquid (IL) interfaces has been characterised with unprecedented clarity by employing a range of atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging techniques and tip pressures appropriate for the system under study. Soft contact and amplit ...

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites exhibit outstanding performances in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the complex solution chemistry of perovskites precursors renders it difficult to prepare large-area devices in a reproducible way, which is a p ...
