Silicon heterojunction (SHJ)-solar modules-when encapsulated with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)-are known to be extremely sensitive to water ingress. The reason for this is, however, not clear. Here, we explain the root causes of this degradation mechanism ...

Since the dawn of humanity, human beings seeked to light their surroundings for their well-being, security and development. The efficiency of ancient lighting devices, e.g. oil lamps or candles, was in the order of 0.03-0.04% and jumped to 0.4-0.6% with th ...

The development of cost-effective and earth-abundant semiconducting materials is imperative for the sustainable deployment of photovoltaic technology. Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is a promising candidate for terawatt-scale electricity generation. It has a near- ...

Photovoltaic (PV) technology is one of the most promising renewable energy sources. The PV market is dominated by crystalline silicon (c-Si) based technologies, thus ensuring their long-term performance is of paramount importance for manufacturers, investo ...

Significant advancements have been made in the development of high-performance cadmium telluride (CdTe)-based thin film solar cells. However, studies examining the transient excited-state charge dynamics, which determine the final steady-state device perfo ...

The ionic defects of hetero-junction interfaces always attract and trap carriers via surface electrostatic forces, which are crucial for the efficiency and intrinsic stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) ...

Ultrathin, solution-processed emerging solar cells with high power-per-weight (PPW) outputs demonstrate unique potential for applications where low weight, high power output, and flexibility are indispensable. The following perspective explores the literat ...

The high-efficiency silicon heterojunction (SHJ) technology is now perceived mature enough to enter the Giga-Watt manufacturing scale with several players around the globe. The growth of the SHJ technology requires confidence from manufacturers, investors, ...

While bottom-up synthesis allows for precise control over the properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), the use of certain precursor molecules can result in edge defects, such as missing benzene rings that resemble a 'bite'. We investigate the adverse eff ...

High-temperature compatible passivating contacts based on phosphorus doped polysilicon (poly-Si(n)) on a thin silicon oxide, employed on the rear side of bifacial n-PERT like solar cells provide an efficiency increase while being compatible with current ph ...

Detailed chemical abundances of very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H] < -2) stars are important for better understanding the first stars, early star formation, and chemical enrichment of galaxies. Big on-going and coming high-resolution spectroscopic surveys provid ...

Solar cells rely on the efficient generation of electrons and holes and the subsequent collection of these photoexcited charge carriers at spatially separated electrodes. High wafer quality is now commonplace for crystalline silicon (c-Si) based solar cell ...

Solar energy is the most abundant energy source, harnessing solar energy holds the solution to the challenge of increasing global energy demand and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. Photovoltaics which directly convert solar energy into electricity ...

Following the 3rd release of the "Emerging PV reports", the best achievements in the performance of emerging photovoltaic (e-PV) devices in diverse e-PV research subjects are summarized, as reported in peer-reviewed articles in academic journals since Augu ...

Silicon (Si), with its indirect bandgap, is a non-ideal absorber. Thus, various strategies to boost silicon solar cells' efficiency, including advanced texturing, multilayer anti-reflecting coating, and rear reflectors are utilized. Dielectrics, deposited ...

Perovskite solar cells have had a meteoric rise in the last decade achieving efficiencies that already rival the most established solar cells technologies. They are easily processed and have excellent optoelectronic properties that make them accessible for ...

Thanks to the continuous improvement of crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells, largely dominating the market, photovoltaic electricity is nowadays the cheapest source of energy on the market. Yet, solar energy is far from being completely harvested, as t ...

In this report, we demonstrate enlarged grain size (up to-3 lm) in ambient-stable black c-phase CsPbI2Br thin films through the regulated addition of guanidinium iodide (GAI) as an effective volatile additive. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-ray pho ...

Nanostructured graphitic materials, including graphene hosting Å to nanometer-sized pores, have attracted attention for various applications such as separations, sensors, and energy storage. Graphene with Å-scale pores is a promising next-generation materi ...

Potential-induced degradation (PID) may be a serious concern in photovoltaic (PV) modules and plants, particularly when approaching high system voltages (1500+ V). Here, we investigate PID occurring in bifacial rear-emitter silicon heterojunction (SHJ) sol ...
