A current goal driving alloy development is the identification of alloy compositions for high temperature applications but with the additional requirement of sufficient ductility at ambient temperatures. Multicomponent, single-phase, polycrystalline High E ...

The compressive resistance of concrete in new structures is usually characterized on the basis of tests performed on concrete cylinders or cubes under relatively rapid loading conditions. Although efficient for material characterization, these tests do not ...

This study presents a thermomechanical processing concept which is capable of exploiting the full industrial application potential of recently introduced AlMgZn(Cu) alloys. The beneficial linkage of alloy design and processing allows not only to satisfy th ...

Two new ferrito-martensitic oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels reinforced with (Y, Ti, O) nanoparticles were elaborated using a high-energy attritor. The milled powder was consolidated by hot extrusion at 1050 degrees C. The two types of ODS steels ...

The present paper investigates the behavior of iron-based shape memory alloys (Fe-SMAs) subjected to cyclic inelastic straining by means of uniaxial coupon experiments. The tests feature round bar coupons subjected to a broad range of uniaxial cyclic strai ...

An amorphous poly(urethane-urea) copolymer composed of 70 wt% poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) soft segments (SS) (Mw = 2000 g mol−1) and 30 wt% cycloaliphatic hard segments (HS) was subjected to in-situ X-Rays during tensile deformation. Mechanical hardening at ...

The demand for metal alloys with superior structural performance in industrial applications continues to increase, as does the need for more-energy efficient materials and methods. Many materials that are otherwise attractive for structural applications ar ...

The high-entropy alloy (HEA) concept was based on the idea that high mixing entropy can promote formation of stable single-phase microstructures. During the past 15 years, various alloy systems have been explored to identify HEA systems with improved prope ...

Random body-centered-cubic (BCC) "High Entropy" alloys are a new class of alloys, some having high strength and good ductility at room temperature and some having exceptional high-temperature strength. There are no theories of strengthening of screw disloc ...

The microstructural evolution of the two austenitic alloys Fe-20Mn-3Al-0.7C wt pct and Fe-20Mn-6Al-0.7C wt pct when different thermal and thermomechanical treatments are performed has been studied. To this end, a generic industrial die of 100 ton capacity ...

The detection of oxygen (O-2) by optical sensors is of growing importance, for example, in biology, life science, environmental science, and aerodynamics, where the composition of gases is crucial for many applications. Purely organic optical O-2 sensors a ...

The thermomechanical properties of materials are among the most important properties for designing precision instruments, in particular for devices seeking high-dimensional stability, invariant temperature-elastic properties or low thermoelastic losses. De ...

Sensors capable of detecting and classifying volatile organic compounds (VOC) have been gaining more attention by the advent of internet-of-things (IoT) enabled devices and integration of various sensing elements into hand-held and portable devices. The re ...

The industrial applications of Mg, the lightest structural metal, and abundant in Earth's crust, are hampered by its low intrinsic ductility and low fracture toughness at room temperature which is attributed to the underlying less symmetric and plastically ...
