Bicyclic carbocycles containing a high fraction of Csp3 have become highly attractive synthetic targets because of the multiple applications they have found in medicinal chemistry. The formal cycloaddition of bicyclobutanes (BCBs) with two- or three-atom p ...

Recent advances in coupling light-harvesting microorganisms with electronic components have led to a new generation of biohybrid devices based on microbial photocatalysts. These devices are limited by the poorly conductive interface between phototrophs and ...

The impact of an 8-oxoguanine (8oxoG) defect on the redox properties of DNA within the nucleosome core particle (NCP) was investigated employing hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) molecular dynamics simulations of native and 8oxoG-contai ...

Complexes of uranium in low oxidation state have shown the ability to activate non-reactive small molecules such as N-2. However, the multi-electron transfer required for such activation remains limited in uranium chemistry. Here, we review our recent rese ...

Nitrogen-containing compounds are an important class of molecules in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, material sciences or environmental sciences. Organic nitrogen occurs in many forms, ranging from small building blocks such as urea, a ...

Amino alcohols, cyclopropanes and nitriles are privileged structural motifs found in the scaffold of natural products and bioactive compounds. In addition, they are versatile building blocks in organic chemistry. The development of new and increasingly eff ...

The general scope of this thesis lies in the application of MOFs in photocatalysis. MOFs demonstrate inherent properties â such as high porosity, tunable optoelectronic and catalytic properties, which render them promising candidates for photocatalysis. ...

a-Amino ketones and 1,2-amino alcohols are important structural motifs in organic chemistry, that can be observed in natural products, pharmaceutically and bioactive compounds. For these reasons, they constitute privileged targets for the development of ne ...

Room temperature ionic liquids comprise an unique class of solvent composed of organic and inorganic-based ions that are molten under ambient conditions. They are characterised by high solvent polarity and low vapour pressure, and can be tailored to have s ...

Organic chemistry is essential for the development of a modern society and technical progress requires the continuous development of synthetic methodologies Novel, efficient, selective and flexible protocols are employed to access complex frameworks from s ...

Semiconductor photocorrosion is a major challenge for the stability of photoelectrochemical water-splitting devices. Usually, photocorrosion is studied on the basis of thermodynamic aspects, by comparing the redox potentials of water to the self-decomposit ...

The design, synthesis, fundamentals and evaluation of 2D/3D antimicrobial surfaces are addressed in detail in the current review. Recent advances in the antimicrobial mechanism, kinetics and properties of Ag, Cu and Ag-Cu surfaces in the dark and under lig ...

Soft or “liquid-liquid” interfaces were functionalized by half a monolayer of mirror-like nanofilms of gold nanoparticles using a precise interfacial microinjection method. The surface coverage of the nanofilm was characterized by ion transfer voltammetry. ...

Radicals play an important role in many areas of chemistry, such as atmospheric, aquatic, polymer, and biological, to name a few. Radicals are often highly reactive species which are short-lived and therefore harder to study by experimental techniques. In ...

Tetrahydrofurans and pyrrolidines are among the most important heterocycles found in bioactive compounds. Cyclization-functionalization domino reactions of alcohols or amines onto olefins, constitute one of the most efficient methods to access them. In this ...

Photosensitizers may convert molecular oxygen into reactive oxygen species (ROS) including, e.g., singlet oxygen (O-1(2)), superoxide anion (O-2(-center dot)), and hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot), chemicals with extremely high cyto- and potential gen ...

The increasing progress in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology requires more versatile synthetic strategies for the generation of libraries of active compounds and theirs analogues. A wide range of biologically active natural and synthetic compounds c ...

The presence of chloroethene dechlorination activity as well as several bacterial genera containing mainly organohalide respiring members was investigated in 34 environmental samples from 18 different sites. Cultures inoculated with these environmental sam ...

We report UV photodissociation (UVPD) spectra of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) complexes with alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+, and Cs+) in a cold, 22-pole ion trap. All the complexes show a number of vibronically resolved bands, but the vibronic structu ...

Activated cyclopropanes, such as vinyl and carbonyl cyclopropanes, are useful building blocks in organic chemistry due to their exceptional reactivity. This review focuses on the use of cyclopropyl carbonyls and imines in cyclization and cycloaddition reac ...
