Modern solid-state devices were made possible by the discovery of semiconductor heterostructures. Heterostructures offer the ability to fabricate low-dimensional nanostructures such as quantum dots which can restrain carriers in all three-directions. Quant ...

A model for the simulation of the tokamak boundary is described, which is mass-conserving to leading order in rho s / R 0 (where rho s is the ion sound Larmor radius and R-0 is the tokamak major radius at the magnetic axis). The model integrates a three-di ...

Multiply excited states in semiconductor quantum dots feature intriguing physics and play a crucial role in nanocrystal-based technologies. While photoluminescence provides a natural probe to investigate these states, room-temperature single-particle spect ...

At the outermost surface of colloidal QDs are organic surface ligands which dynamically bind and release in solution to control the growth kinetics, control the size/shape of the crystals, passivate surface states, and provide colloidal stability through f ...

This work investigates halide segregation in methylammonium-free wide bandgap perovskites by photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and advanced electron microscopy techniques. Our study reveals how the formation of nano-emitting low-energy domains embedde ...

Strongly confined, fully inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals are of great promise for light-emitting devices in the blue spectral range owing to their high photoluminescence quantum yields. A combination of broadband fluorescence up-conver ...

Natural foundations defining the manner in which a solid material interacts with optical radiation are primarily encoded in the material's momentum-dependent band structure and the microscopic details of the electron-lattice interactions. An access to this ...

c-plane GaN/AlN quantum dots (QDs) are promising zero-dimensional quantum nanostructures that exhibit single photon emission properties up to room temperature and even above. In this context, it is of prime interest to gain a deeper insight into the recomb ...

In a typical fusion experiment, the plasma can have several possible confinement modes. At the tokamak a configuration variable, aside from the low (L) and high (H) confinement modes, an additional mode, dithering (D), is frequently observed. Developing me ...

Excitons, Coulomb-bound electron-hole pairs, are the fundamental excitations governing the optoelectronic properties of semiconductors. Although optical signatures of excitons have been studied extensively, experimental access to the excitonic wave functio ...

Supramolecular assemblies from organic dyes forming J-aggregates are known to exhibit narrowband photoluminescence with full-width at half maximum of approximate to 9 nm (260 cm(-1)). Applications of these high color purity emitters, however, are hampered ...

Understanding exciton-exciton interaction in multiply excited nanocrystals is crucial to their utilization as functional materials. Yet, for lead halide perovskite nanocryst-als, which are promising candidates for nanocrystal-based technologies, numerous c ...

The quasiparticle spectra of atomically thin semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and their response to an ultrafast optical excitation critically depend on interactions with the underlying substrate. Here, we present a comparative time- ...

The work presented in this thesis is focused on the design and discovery of new luminescent, porous, crystalline materials for targeted applications. In particular, we focus on luminescent Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Organic Molecules of Intrinsic ...

Recent studies demonstrated that the performance of InGaN/GaN quantum well (QW) light emitting diodes (LEDs) can be significantly improved through the insertion of an InGaN underlayer (UL). The current working hypothesis is that the presence of the UL redu ...

An integrated circuit fabricated using industry-standard 40 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology can combine silicon quantum devices, digital addressing and analogue multiplexed dispersive readout electronics. ...
