Faithful human performance capture and free-view rendering from sparse RGB observations is a long-standing problem in Vision and Graphics. The main challenges are the lack of observations and the inherent ambiguities of the setting, e.g. occlusions and dep ...

Estimating ecosystem-atmosphere fluxes such as evapotranspiration (ET) in a robust manner and at a global scale remains a challenge. Methods based on machine learning (ML) have shown promising results in achieving such upscaling, providing a complementary ...

We report the discovery of a complete Einstein ring around the elliptical galaxy NGC 6505, at z = 0.042. This is the first strong gravitational lens discovered in Euclid and the first in an NGC object from any survey. The combination of the low redshift of ...

Adversarial examples crafted in black-box scenarios are affected by unrealistic colors or spatial artifacts. To prevent these shortcomings, we propose a novel strategy that generates adversarial images with low detectability and high transferability. The p ...

Integer linear programming (ILP) is an elegant approach to solve linear optimization problems, naturally described using integer decision variables. Within the context of physics-inspired machine learning (ML) applied to chemistry, we demonstrate the relev ...

Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are well known to perform poorly on dysarthric speech. Previous works have addressed this by speaking rate modification to reduce the mismatch with typical speech. Unfortunately, these approaches rely on transcrib ...

Given a ground-level query image and a geo-referenced aerial image that covers the query’s local surroundings, fine-grained cross-view localization aims to estimate the location of the ground camera inside the aerial image. Recent works have focused on dev ...

This study integrates deep learning and geospatial analysis to enhance soil loss estimation in the Moulouya Watershed, a region prone to erosion due to diverse topography and climatic conditions. Traditional models like the Universal Soil Loss Equation (US ...

Monitoring of cardiac output (CO) is a mainstay of hemodynamic management in the acutely or critically ill patient. Invasive determination of CO using thermodilution, albeit regarded as the gold standard, is cumbersome and bears risks inherent to catheteri ...

Object detection, a fundamental task in computer vision, is crucial for various intelligent edge computing applications. However, object detection algorithms are usually heavy in computation, hindering their deployments on resource-constrained edge devices ...

The Euclid space mission will cover over 14 000 deg2 with two optical and near-infrared spectro-photometric instruments, and is expected to detect around ten million active galactic nuclei (AGN). This unique data set will make a considerable impact on our ...

The circumgalactic medium (CGM) contains information on the cumulative effect of galactic outflows over time, generally thought to be caused by feedback from star formation and active galactic nuclei. Observations of such outflows via absorption in CGM gas ...

We report the discovery of a rare isolated group of five dwarf galaxies located at z = 0.0086 (D = 36 Mpc). All member galaxies are star forming, blue, and gas rich, with g − r indices ranging from 0.2 to 0.6 mag, and two of them show signs of ongoing mutu ...

In the current JWST era, rest-frame UV spectra play a crucial role in enhancing our understanding of the interstellar medium (ISM) and stellar properties of the first galaxies in the epoch of reionization (z > 6). Here, we compare well-known and reliable o ...

Deep learning (DL) has recently been proposed as a novel approach for 21cm foreground removal. Before applying DL to real observations, it is essential to assess its consistency with established methods, its performance across various simulation models, an ...

All rights reserved. The statistical distribution and evolution of key properties of active galactic nuclei (AGN), such as their accretion rate, mass, and spin, remains a subject of open debate in astrophysics. The ESA Euclid space mission, launched on July ...

The field of text-to-video retrieval has advanced significantly with the evolution of language models and large-scale pre-training on generated caption-video pairs. Current methods predominantly focus on visual and event-based details, making retrieval lar ...

Atomic hydrogen (H i) serves a crucial role in connecting galactic-scale properties such as star formation with the large-scale structure of the Universe. While recent numerical simulations have successfully matched the observed covering fraction of H i ne ...

Purpose: In this work, we present a new machine learning method based on the transformer neural network to detect eye rubbing using a smartwatch in a real-life setting. In ophthalmology, the accurate detection and prevention of eye rubbing could reduce inc ...

We consider a network of agents that must solve an online optimization problem from continual observation of streaming data. To this end, the agents implement a distributed cooperative strategy where each agent is allowed to perform local exchange of infor ...
