Electro-optical photonic integrated circuits (PICs) based on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) have demonstrated the vast capabilities of materials with a high Pockels coefficient1,2. They enable linear and high-speed modulators operating at complementary metal–oxi ...

A tunable and reconfigurable optical Nyquist channels aggregation is experimentally demonstrated. The proposed method two aggregate lower order modulation formats into a single higher order one. Two 16 Gbaud QPSK Nyquist pulses aggregated to a 16 QAM Nyqui ...

In vivo (13) C MRS at high field benefits from an improved SNR and spectral resolution especially when using surface coils in combination with adiabatic pulses, such as the adiabatic half-passage (AHP) pulse for (13) C excitation. However, the excitation p ...

Efficient DC-DC power-conversion with wide-span voltage-regulation is crucial to a sustainable and robust power electronics system. Dual-active-bridge (DAB) offers straight-forward regulation and its transformer enables voltage step-up/down required for ma ...

We present a Nyquist pulse generation technique based on a single Mach-Zehnder modulator driven by a multi-harmonic electrical signal. The direct control of the RF components yields a range of 10 GHz sinc-shaped pulse train. ...

Light field cameras can capture the 3D information in a scene with a single exposure. This special feature makes light field cameras very appealing for a variety of applications: from post capture refocus, to depth estimation and image-based rendering. How ...

This paper reports on a distributed fiber sensing scheme to achieve sub-metric spatial resolution and long sensing ranges based on a differential pulse-width pair (DPP) Brillouin sensor. The scheme uses a scanning method in which the spectral separation be ...

Brown adipose fat tissue of a mouse dissipates the animal’s energy in the form of heat. Chronically recording the temperature of this tissue helps biologists to study the metabolism of the animal and gain new insights about the obesity in humans. Such temp ...

Since the invention of optical fiber cable data transmission using light has become ubiquitous in the past years. Nonlinear optical effects, which are hardly noticed in our daily life, have become crucial and highly influential for the design and performan ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate new architectures to realize multi-tap microwave photonic filters, based on the generation of a single or multiple dynamic Brillouin gratings in polarization maintaining fibers. The spectral range and selectivity o ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate the possibility to use a pump signal based on bipolar pulse sequences using single-sideband suppressed-carrier (SSB-SC) modulation in Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA) sensors. The SSB-SC modulated pum ...

A novel technique for the localization of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) interaction is proposed, analyzed and demonstrated experimentally. The method relies on the phase modulation of two counter-propagating optical waves by a common pseudo-random ...

In this work, we apply a recent technique for the generation of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) dynamic gratings that are both localized and stationary to realize high-resolution distributed temperature sensing. The gratings generation method relies ...

Reflections from movable, dynamic acoustic gratings in polarization maintaining (PM) fibers are employed in the long variable delay of periodic, isolated pulses. The gratings are introduced by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) interaction between two c ...

In this letter, we demonstrate experimentally Brillouin echo-distributed sensing based on differential phase-shift keying technique. A positive and negative pulse is applied to a single Mach-Zehnder modulator to achieve a resolution of 5 cm. ...

Optical low coherence reflectometry (OLCR) is non-destructive interferometric technique that allows measuring amplitude and phase of the light reflected from the device under test. OLCR is a powerful tool for the characterization of the various optical dev ...
