Stroke, a major global health concern often rooted in cardiac dynamics, demands precise risk evaluation for targeted intervention. Current risk models, like the CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepa ...

BACKGROUND:The indication for mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in stroke patients with large vessel occlusion has been constantly expanded over the past years. Despite remarkable treatment effects at the group level in clinical trials, many patients remain sev ...

This paper presents an innovative approach to creating Shape Memory Alloys (SMA)-based actuators that are lightweight, compact, and capable of providing large strokes. Inspired by the Kirigami structure, an SMA actuator is designed using the Ω -pattern, wh ...

Motivated by the need for a better understanding of post-stroke recovery and new biomarkers to improve stroke patient stratification and outcomes, this thesis investigated structure-function coupling and its role in post-stroke recovery. Furthermore, in or ...

Stroke is a disease that causes the death of precious brain cells that will never grow back and which will affect one in four humans at some point in their life. While therapies and treatments for this debilitating condition are fairly standard, their outc ...

The speed of change in the modern world is impressive. Within the last 50 years, many devices and technologies have significantly transformed their appearance, intrinsic characteristics and improved their performance. Computers have changed from the size o ...

A removable clip connection device particularly adapted to bamboo structures is disclosed, as well as assemblies formed with the same and uses thereof. The clip connection features a base (100) located at a first end (10) of the device, said base having a ...

Background Rehabilitative treatment plans after stroke are based on clinical examinations of functional capacity and patient-reported outcomes. Objective information about daily life performance is usually not available, but it may improve therapy personal ...

Background: Noninvasive brain stimulation has been successfully applied to improve stroke impairments in different behavioral domains. Yet, clinical translation is limited by heterogenous comes within and across studies. It has been proposed to develop and ...

Physiological evidence suggests that neighboring brain regions have similar perfusion characteristics (vascular supply, collateral blood flow). It is largely unknown whether integrating perfusion CT (pCT) information from the area surrounding a given voxel ...

Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability. Advanced technological solutions ("neurotechnologies'') exploiting robotic systems and electrodes that stimulate the nervous system can increase the efficacy of stroke rehabilitation. Recent stud ...

Cerebral metabolism, which can be monitored by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), changes rapidly after brain ischaemic injury. Hyperpolarisation techniques boost (13)C MRS sensitivity by several orders of magnitude, thereby enabling in vivo monitoring ...

Stroke has become one of the main causes of visual impairment, with more than 15 million incidences of first-time strokes, per year, worldwide. One-third of stroke survivors exhibit visual impairment, and most of them will not fully recover. Some recovery ...

A steerable device for use as e.g. a guidewire for insertion into a subject's body is disclosed. The device features a single side deflection of a bendable portion located at its distal end by application of a longitudinally-directed force either on an inn ...

Stroke is one of the main causes of long-term disability worldwide, placing a large burden on individuals and society. Rehabilitation after stroke consists of an iterative process involving assessments and specialized training, aspects often constrained by ...

This article presents a model and experimental results for a new class of bending soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) made from a single section of thin-walled flexible tubing. The actuator is formed by creasing the tubing into fin-like rectangular folds and i ...

Hand motor function is often severely affected in stroke patients. Non-satisfying recovery limits reintegration into normal daily life. Understanding stroke-related network changes and identifying common principles that might underlie recovered motor funct ...

The invention relates to a hand exoskeleton device having a modular nature. The device is designed to be wearable, portable and light in weight, and comprises from one to ten modules each having an actuating mechanism such as a linear actuator coupled with ...

Motor recovery following stroke is believed to necessitate alteration in functional connectivity between cortex and muscle. Cortico-muscular coherence has been proposed as a potential biomarker for post-stroke motor deficits, enabling a quantification of r ...

More than 1.5 million people suffer a stroke in Europe per year and more than 70% of stroke survivors experience limited functional recovery of their upper limb, resulting in diminished quality of life. Therefore, interventions to address upper-limb impair ...
