Nanofabrication is key to many technological advances, especially the challenge of merging nanophotonics with electronics. Here, we investigate the fabrication process of plasmonic interdigitated gold electrodes having a very high aspect ratio (i.e. long a ...

Detachment, an important mechanism for reducing target heat deposition, is achieved through reductions in power, particle and momentum; which are induced through plasma-atom and plasma-molecule interactions. Experimental research in how those reactions pre ...

Successful management of secondary waste resources is essential for the viable circular economy. E-waste could serve as the potential urban mining source for the alternative supply chain of critical metals such as rare earth elements (REEs). The hydrometal ...

In this article, using numerical simulations we investigate the self-assembly of rod-like particles in suspension due to depletion forces which naturally emerge due to the presence of smaller spherical depletant particles. We characterize the type of clust ...

The current study provides an insight into the thermal stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and the factors causing their degradation. To this end, a systematic stability study was carried out on n-i-p type perovskite solar cells involving mesoporous ...

The production of nontoxic, affordable, and efficient antibacterial surfaces is key to the well-being of our societies. In this aim, antibacterial thin films have been prepared using earth-abundant metals deposited using high-power impulse magnetron sputte ...

Short wavelength free-electron lasers (FELs), providing pulses of ultrahigh photon intensity, have revolutionized spectroscopy on ionic targets. Their exceptional photon flux enables multiple photon absorptions within a single femtosecond pulse, which in t ...

Tailoring solid surfaces attracts a number of technological and scientific interest with numerous applications. One method to modify a solid surface is via the formation of a molecular film. The adsorbed molecules assemble spontaneously (self assemble) for ...

Linac4 is the new negative hydrogen ion (H-) linear accelerator of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Its ion source operates on the principle of Radio-Frequency Inductively Coupled Plasma (RF-ICP) and it is required to provide 50 mA of ...

We present a non-comprehensive review of some representative experimental studies in crystalline condensed matter systems where the effects of intense ultrashort light pulses are probed using x-ray diffraction and photoelectron spectroscopy. On an ultrafas ...

Revealing the emergence and the dynamics of collective excitations in complex matter is a subject of pivotal importance, as it provides insight into the strength and spatial distribution of interactions and correlations. At the same time, collectivity lies ...

Organic-inorganic halide perovskites have rapidly grown as favorable materials for photovoltaic applications, but accomplishing long-term stability is still a major research problem. This work demonstrates a new insight on instability and degradation facto ...

Histidine remained the last aromatic amino acid for which the intrinsic spectroscopic properties and structures were obscure. We measured the UV and IR spectra of protonated histidine, isolated in the gas phase, using photofragmentation cold ion spectrosco ...

Proteins and even small peptides play crucial role in almost any biological. Biological activity and functionality of these building blocks of life are determined not only by their primary structure, but also by their 3D orientation â secondary, tertiary ...

The characterization of non-thermal homogeneous plasmas is possible using optical emission spectroscopy (OES), notably by estimating the reduced electric field. This method was applied to characterize streamers generated by a nanosecond pulsed surface diel ...

The optical gap of the organic semiconductor [1]benzothieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene and its 2,7-dibrominated analogue is measured in solution and in the crystalline state by means of UV-vis and emission spectroscopy. Bromination leads to a change in molecular ...

The bacterial inactivation of Escherichia coli on Cu/CuO-polyester surfaces prepared by direct current magnetron sputtering was investigated in the dark and under actinic light (360nm

We present a simple electron time of flight spectrometer for time resolved photoelectron spectroscopy of liquid samples using a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) source produced by high-harmonic generation. The field free spectrometer coupled with the time-preservi ...

Hybrid montmorillonite-alginate beads (MABs) were prepared by the ion-gelation method from alginate and montmorillonite clay suspension dropped in a calcium chloride solution. Similarly, iron-enriched beads (Fe-MABs) were prepared using iron-exchanged mont ...

The development of a whole-cell based sensor for arsenite detection coupling biological engineering and electrochemical techniques is presented. This strategy takes advantage of the natural Escherichia coli resistance mechanism against toxic arsenic specie ...
