Thermo-optical nonlinearities (TONL) in metasurfaces enable dynamic control of optical properties—such as transmitted power, phase, and polarization—through external stimuli like laser irradiation or temperature. Due to the inherently slow thermal dynamics ...

Whole-brain proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (H-1-MRSI) is a non-invasive technique for assessing neurochemical distribution in the brain, offering valuable insights into brain functions and neural diseases. It greatly benefits from the impr ...

A novel fast 3D-31P-B+1 mapping method called the frequency-selective Double-AngleMethod (fDAM) has been developed. This method integrates a 3D weighted stack of spiral gradient echo acquisitions with a frequency-selective pulse to efficiently map B+1 fiel ...

One route to the control of quantum magnetism at ultrafast timescales is magnetophononics, the modulation of magnetic interactions by coherently driven lattice excitations. Theoretical studies of a gapped quantum magnet subject to continuous, single-freque ...

Microcantilevers are popular transducers thanks to their simple design and a high sensitivity. In many applications, the cantilevers need to be actuated, either to induce a controlled deflection or to excite the resonance. This can be achieved with integra ...

Optical-domain transient grating (TG) spectroscopy is the ideal tool to investigate transport phenomena in gases, liquids and solids, but it is limited to typically micron-size grating periods. Extreme-Ultraviolet TG has represented a major leap forward to ...

Different phenomena that occur in a periodic array of plasmonic nanostructures are investigated in terms of periodicity and multipoles. In this presentation, we revisit the resonances that exist in periodic plasmonic systems, Fig. 1. Starting with some bas ...

Over the last two decades, Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DW-MRI) has been developed as a powerful MR imaging modality that allows estimating non-invasively the microscopic structure of biological tissues by exploiting the natural motion of ...

A new 3.2 mm 1H–19F–X magic angle spinning dynamic nuclear polarization NMR (MAS DNP-NMR) probe was developed with a unique coil design with separate radiofrequency channels for 1H excitation and 13C or 19F detection to enable acquisition of 1H–19F cross-p ...

Controlling the light emitted by individual molecules is instrumental to a number of advanced nanotechnologies ranging from super-resolution bioimaging and molecular sensing to quantum nanophotonics. Molecular emission can be tailored by modifying the loca ...

Probing and manipulating the spatiotemporal dynamics of hot carriers in nanoscale metals is crucial to a plethora of applications ranging from nonlinear nanophotonics to single-molecule photochemistry. The direct investigation of these highly non-equilibri ...

This thesis investigates the magnetic properties of single atoms and molecules adsorbed on thin magnesium oxide decoupling layers, grown on a silver single crystal. To address these systems experimentally, we use a low temperature scanning tunneling micros ...

Under magnetic fields, quantum magnets often undergo exotic phase transitions with various kinds of order. The discovery of a sequence of fractional magnetization plateaus in the Shastry-Sutherland compound SrCu2(BO3)(2) has played a central role in the hi ...

Phase contrast imaging (PCI) is an established and powerful technique for measuring density fluctuations in plasmas and has been successfully applied to several fusion devices. Rooted in a concept first developed for microscopy, PCI belongs to the category ...

Motivated by the experimental observation of a quantized 5/2 thermal conductance at filling nu = 5/2, a result incompatible with both the Pfaffian and the anti-Pfaffian states, we have pushed the expansion of the effective Hamiltonian of the 5/2-quantized ...

The millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency band is becoming very interesting over the past years because it provides the opportunity to operate using large bandwidths which are not available at lower frequencies. This enables new communication standards suppor ...

We have performed electrochemical treatment of the van der Waals antiferromagnetic materials FePS3 and NiPS3 with the ionic liquid EMIM-BF4, achieving significant molecular intercalation. Mass analysis of the intercalated compounds, EMIMx-FePS3 and EMIMx-N ...

In the quest for controlling materials' properties, light as an external stimulus has a special place as it can create new states of matter and enable their ultrafast manipulation. In particular, spintronics, an exciting emergent field relying on the elect ...

Phase transitions in condensed matter are a source of exotic emergent properties. We study the fully frustrated bilayer Heisenberg antiferromagnet to demonstrate that an applied magnetic field creates a previously unknown emergent criticality. The quantum ...

Battery research often encounters the challenge of determining chemical information, such as composition and elemental oxidation states, of a layer buried within a cell stack in a non-destructive manner. Spectroscopic techniques based on X-ray emission or ...
