The study of brain disorders has long been central to both neurology and psychiatry, with these two disciplines evolving as distinct yet deeply interconnected fields. In fact, these specialties often share overlapping symptoms, neural pathways, and treatme ...

Correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) combines light microscopy, for identifying a target via genetic labels, dyes, antibodies and morphological features, with electron microscopy, for analyzing high-resolution subcellular ultrastructures. Here, ...

Over the last two decades, Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DW-MRI) has been developed as a powerful MR imaging modality that allows estimating non-invasively the microscopic structure of biological tissues by exploiting the natural motion of ...

We consider three-dimensional cubic barcodes, consisting of smaller cubes, each built from one of two possible materials and carry one bit of information. To retrieve the information stored in the barcode, we measure a 2-D projection of the barcode using a ...

A novel fast 3D-31P-B+1 mapping method called the frequency-selective Double-AngleMethod (fDAM) has been developed. This method integrates a 3D weighted stack of spiral gradient echo acquisitions with a frequency-selective pulse to efficiently map B+1 fiel ...

Restoring the ability to walk is a priority for individuals with neurological disorders or neurotraumatic injuries, given its significant impact on independence and quality of life. Multimodal closed-loop strategies that integrate robotic assistance and ne ...

Objective: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is being increasingly used as a non-invasive treatment for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A non-invasive method to estimate treatment outcomes in these patients would be valuable, especi ...

The function of the neocortex is fundamentally determined by its repeating microcircuit motif, but also by its rich, hierarchical, interregional structure with a highly specific laminar architecture. The last decade has seen the emergence of extensive new ...

This dataset contains some images (TIFF image data) of brain juvenile rats Wistar Han (P14) scanned immunostained slides by using an automated slide scanner (Olympus, VS120-L100, GER) equipped with a UPLSAPO 20x/0.75 air objective (Olympus, GER) and a Pi ...

Digital brain atlases define a hierarchy of brain regions and their locations in three-dimensional space. They provide a standard coordinate system in which diverse datasets can be integrated for visualization and analysis. They also enable building of dat ...

18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) allows to quantify the metabolic activity of a tumor (glycolysis) and has become a reference tool in oncology for the staging, restaging, radiotherapy planning and ...

Animals, including humans, exhibit a remarkable variety of complex behaviours. How the nervous system controls all these behaviours ranging from simple, stereotyped movements to flexible, adaptive actions is a central questions of neuroscience. One of the ...

Imaging techniques in radio interferometry often face a significant challenge posed by the large number of antenna signals received, from which the image information needs to be extracted. Beam- forming is envisaged to reduce the rate required for transpor ...

Neuroprostheses have been used clinically for decades, to help restore or preserve brain functions, when pharmaceutical treatments are inefficient. Although great progress in the field has been made over the years to interface with the nervous system, surf ...

Registration algorithms are an essential component of many computer graphics and computer vision systems. With recent technological advances in RGBD sensors (color plus depth), an active area of research is in techniques combining color, geometry, and lear ...

In the past decades different methods based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) have been developed to image a variety of hemodynamic parameters in tissue. However, simultaneous high resolution imaging of oxy- and deo ...

All functions we use in our everyday life depend on a complex interplay between both cortical and subcortical brain areas, communicating in between each others. When a region is affected by either an accident, aging or neurodegenerative diseases, the whole ...

IntroductionThreat processing, enabled by threat circuits, is supported by a remarkably conserved neural architecture across mammals. Threatening stimuli relevant for most species include the threat of being attacked by a predator or an aggressive conspeci ...

Object detection is a significant challenge in Computer Vision and has received a lot of attention in the field. One such challenge addressed in this thesis is the detection of polygonal objects, which are prevalent in man-made environments. Shape analysis ...

While sensory representations in the brain depend on context, it remains unclear how such modulations are implemented at the biophysical level, and how processing layers further in the hierarchy can extract useful features for each possible contex-tual sta ...
