Limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) is a promising material for producing cement with low CO2 emissions and properties similar to, or superior to, those of Portland cement (PC), but at 50 % clinker content (LC3-50). In many applications, lower strengths t ...

This article presents the outcomes of a large project towards the investigation of the lateral performance of full-scale industrialized light-frame wooden diaphragms. 10 full-scale diaphragms of 3.6 m by 2.4 m were tested under in-plane lateral loading (mo ...

Understanding the sulfate balance mechanism of cement is needed for an effective use of sustainable blended cements. Pure phase systems allow to study the interaction between sulfate and each of the phases involved in early age hydration separately. This p ...

Ye'elimite (Ca4Al6O12SO4 or C(4)A(3)S) is the main hydraulic mineral present in calcium sulphoaluminate cement (CSA). Its reaction is responsible for the (early) hydration and associated cement properties such as the chemical shrinkage. This paper discusse ...

The influence of thermal activation temperature in the pozzolanic reactivity of low grade kaolinitic clay and the impact of calcination products in OPC hydration are assessed in this paper. The raw material, with approximately 40% kaolinite and 40% of 2:1 ...

The long-term expansion of calcium aluminate cement and calcium sulfoaluminate cement in the presence of added gypsum has been studied for samples cured under water. Progressively higher amounts of gypsum were added to the CAC or CSA and it was found that ...

This paper focuses on the interactions that occur between cement phases during early hydration, especially between the hydration of alite and C(3)A-gypsum. This study shows that alite reaction is accelerated in the presence of gypsum. This acceleration was ...

This study investigates the coupled substitution of metakaolin and limestone in Portland cement (PC). The mechanical properties were studied in mortars and the microstructural development in pastes by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry analysis, mercury i ...

Extent-based Incremental Model Identification (IMI) uses the concept of extent of reaction and the integral method of parameter estimation to identify reaction kinetics from transient concentration measurements. This study proposes to incorporate calorimet ...

To measure the degree of reaction of slag in blended pastes, five methods were studied. Selective dissolution and differential scanning calorimetry are shown to be unreliable, SEM-BSE-IA-mapping is time consuming, but does provide good results with a reaso ...

Extent-based incremental identification uses the concept of extents and the integral method of parameter estimation to identify reaction kinetics from concentration measurements. The approach is rather general and can be applied to open both homogeneous an ...

Addition of fine limestone provides an excellent means to reduce the amount of clinker in cement. It is now well accepted that limestone partially reacts in cementitious systems with C3A to produce hemi- and monocarboaluminate phases and as a consequence m ...

Tricalcium aluminate (C3A) is one of the main constituents of Portland cement. Even though it represents less than 10% of the total composition, its strong reaction with water can lead to a rapid setting, called flash set. Gypsum is added to regulate this ...

As part of a broader effort to establish processing-structure-property relationships in PLLA/nHA, which is currently under consideration for bioresorbable scaffolds for bone repair, hot stage optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry have be ...
