BackgroundBronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome (BOS), a fibrotic airway disease that may develop after lung transplantation, conventionally relies on pulmonary function tests (PFTs) for diagnosis due to limitations of CT imaging. Deep neural networks (DNNs) h ...

Liver organoids have emerged as promising in vitro models for toxicology, drug discovery, and disease modeling. However, conventional 3D epithelial organoid culture systems suffer from significant drawbacks, including limited culture duration, a nonphysiol ...

Although micron-sized microgels have become important building blocks in regenerative materials, offering decisive interactions with living matter, their chemical composition mostly significantly varies when their network morphology is tuned. Since cell be ...

DNA biosensors are promising candidates for the development of point-of-care diagnosis methods. They can be inserted in microfluidic platforms, are often non-expensive, and can be produced for a variety of targeted analytes. However, their development face ...

The invention provides a method for quantifying the number of target entities that were successfully encapsulated into a microfluidic compartment such as a microfluidic droplet. The invention is predicated upon a continuous quantifiable detectable signal c ...

Increasing interest in understanding fundamental biological processes, among which aging and nutrition, has led to the study of simple and powerful model organisms, as the round-worm Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). The nematode, selected by Sydney Bre ...

Characterizing tissue composition at the cellular level is essential for understanding the human body in health and disease, and has been one of the frontiers in biology for centuries. Recently developed single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) techniques no ...

A multimaterial inkjet printing method for integrated soft multifunctional machines is reported, combining dense arrays of electrostatic actuators, multilayer electrical routing, and complex networks of microfluidic channels in one printing process. Most a ...

An innovative nanoplasmonic biosensor was presented for real-time label-free monitoring of cytokine secretion at single-cell resolution. This biosensor is integrated with a uniquely designed microfluidic device that provides a microchamber for cell incubat ...

Microorganisms navigate and divide on surfaces to form multicellular structures called biofilms, the most widespread survival strategy found in the bacterial world. One common assumption is that cellular components guide the spatial architecture and arrang ...

In this study we present a novel microfluidic hydrodynamic trapping device to probe the cell–cell interaction between all cell samples of two distinct populations. We have exploited an hydrodynamic trapping method using microfluidics to immobilize a batch ...

Fluctuations and deterioration in environmental conditions potentially have a phenotypic impact that extends over generations. Transgenerational epigenetics is the defined term for such intergenerational transient inheritance without an alteration in the D ...

The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is an attractive model organism, owing notably to its short life cycle, genetic tractability, and optical transparency facilitating microscopic observation. This thesis deals with the realization of technological tools f ...

A boundary-fitted moving mesh scheme is presented for the simulation of two-phase flow in two-dimensional and axisymmetric geometries. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved using the finite element method, and the mini element is used to sa ...

With the advent of high-throughput and genome-wide screening initiatives, there is a need for improved methods for cell-based assays. Current approaches require expensive equipment, rely on large-scale culturing formats not suited for small or rare sample ...

The integration of nanoscale sensors with microfluidic platforms is a powerful tool for the design of robust biosensing devices that present high reliability and the advantage of a quick data acquisition. In addition, microfluidic based lab-on-a-chip senso ...

Electric fields can be effectively used to sense, manipulate, and move particles in lab-on-a-chip devices. Nevertheless, the throughput of such devices is a critical issue, which can be effectively improved by increasing the height of the microchannels. Fo ...

Nano-objects (8) with feature size smaller than the classical Abbe's diffraction limit can be optically detected via a microlens (4) array configured in a miniaturized microfluidic device. A hydrophilic microwell (3) array in a hydrophobic layer (2) is fir ...

Chromogenic immunohistochemistry (IHC) is omnipresent in cancer diagnosis, but has also been criticized for its technical limit in quantifying the level of protein expression on tissue sections, thus potentially masking clinically relevant data. Shifting f ...

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a powerful technique for evaluating the HER2 gene status in breast cancer specimen (1). However, most of FISH assays currently used in clinical laboratories are expensive and require long experimental time, up t ...
