In the past twenty years, far-reaching studies of molecular and cellular processes have reached a milestone in their maturation, and the knowledge from these studies was ready to apply at higher organizational levels. At that time, rodent models were long ...

Purpose To obtain whole-brain high-resolution T-2 maps in 2 minutes by combining simultaneous multislice excitation and low-power PINS (power independent of number of slices) refocusing pulses with undersampling and a model-based reconstruction. Methods A ...

Determining the relationship between the cause of damage and the subsequent structural behavior of infrastructure systems requires an accurate characterization of the propagation of cracks, which represents the evolution of the damage state. When no inform ...

Medical experts commonly use imaging including Computed Tomography (CT), Positron-Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for diagnosis or to plan a surgery. These scans give a highly detailed representation of the patient anatomy, b ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has yielded great success as a medical imaging modality in the past decades, and its excellent soft tissue contrast is used in clinical routine to support diagnosis today. However, MRI is still facing challenges. For exampl ...

In this article, we present an X-ray tomographic imaging method that is well suited for pulmonary disease studies in animal models to resolve the full pathway from gas intake to gas exchange. Current state-of-the-art synchrotron-based tomographic phase-con ...

Tissue engineering technologies are new and promising techniques in fat tissue reconstruction. However, to assess their efficacy before any clinical application, in vivo experiments are mandatory. This study assesses whether microcomputed tomography (CT) s ...

Volumetric ultrasound (US) is a very promising development of medical US imaging. An under-exploited advantage of volumetric US is the mitigation of the strict probe positioning constrains necessary to acquire 2D scans, potentially allowing the decoupling ...

Glenohumeral osteoarthritis is a degenerative shoulder joint disease, which causes the breakdown of articular cartilage and bone. People affected by this disease suffer from severe pain and eventually reduced mobility and poor life quality. This disease is ...

The study presents a comprehensive characterization of the fabric of bio-improved soils by introducing an image based quantitative analysis of the crystalline bond lattice, as a means of better understanding and interpreting the observed mechanical respons ...

Fast, label-free, high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging platforms are crucial for high-throughput in vivo time-lapse studies of the anatomy of Caenorhabditis elegans, one of the most commonly used model organisms in biomedical research. Despite the ne ...

Since the seventies, positron emission tomography (PET) has become an invaluable medical molecular imaging modality with an unprecedented sensitivity at the picomolar level, especially for cancer diagnosis and the monitoring of its response to therapy. Mor ...

This article presents two algorithms developed based on two different techniques, from clusterization theory, namely k-means clustering technique and Fuzzy C-means technique, respectively. In this context, the study offers a sustained comparison of the two ...

18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) allows to quantify the metabolic activity of a tumor (glycolysis) and has become a reference tool in oncology for the staging, restaging, radiotherapy planning and ...
