Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) emit near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence that is ideal for optical sensing. However, the low quantum yields diminish the sensor’s signal-to-noise ratio and limits the penetration depths for in vivo measurements. In this ...

Hydrodynamics at the nanoscale involves both fundamental study and application of fluid and mass transport phenomena in nanometer-sized confinements. Nanopores in single-layer graphene can be highly attractive for exploring the molecular transport of gas a ...

Graphene/cotton fibers show significant promise in wearable energy storage due to their low cost, porous structure, and exceptional integration ability into wearable systems. However, the eco-unfriendly reductants and standalone electric double-layer capac ...

Molybdenum atomic-doping on bio-waste derived nitrogen-doped conductive carbon electrocatalyst was synthesized and investigated for the dinitrogen reduction to ammonia in alkaline media. The assessment of the catalytic activity was found to be non-trivial ...

Porous carbon films, attributed to their superior thermal and chemical robustness, are attractive for a number of applications. In the context of molecular separation, a major focus has been on films where the effective pore diameter is lower than 1 nm, e. ...

Significance: Fluorescence guidance is used clinically by surgeons to visualize anatomical and/or physiological phenomena in the surgical field that are difficult or impossible to detect by the naked eye. Such phenomena include tissue perfusion or molecula ...

Single-layer graphene, hosting a high density of functionalized molecular-sieving atom-thick pores, is considered to be an excellent material for gas separation membranes. These functionalized atom-thick pores enable the shortest transport pathway across t ...

From a geometrical perspective, a chiral object does not have mirror planes or inversion symmetry. It exhibits the same physical properties as its mirror image (enantiomer), except for the chiroptical activity, which is often the opposite. Recent advanceme ...

Single-layer graphene (SLG) membranes, hosting molecular-sieving nanopores have been regarded as the ultimate gas separation membranes, attributing to the fact that they are the thinnest possible molecular barrier. However, the expected attractive performa ...

Transformer oil-based nanofluids are known to have higher thermal conductivity and heat transfer performance compared to conventional transformer oils. In this study, four different types of transformer oil-based nanofluids are synthesized using the well-k ...

The association between carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polymers to afford functional composites has been attributed to enthalpic interactions, neglecting the entropic depletion effect, in which bound solvents are released during the association process. Here, ...

DNA-protein interactions lie at the crux of life's essential processes. As such, various technologies have been developed to characterize these interactions. The distinct advantages of these technologies can be leveraged to study different facets of these ...

Surfactants offer a tunable approach for modulating the exposed surface area of a nanoparticle. They further present a scalable and cost-effective means for suspending single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which have demonstrated practical use as fluore ...

Surfactant molecules were non-covalently functionalized with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to retain the remarkable properties of CNTs. Moreover, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were immobilized onto CNTs-surfactant matrixes to enhance the catalytic and biomedical ...

Polymer brushes are thin polymer films that consist of densely grafted, chain-end tethered polymers. These thin polymer films can be produced either by anchoring presynthesized chain-end functional polymers to the surface of interest ("grafting to"), or by ...

This thesis is a study on the molecular structure of the interface of nanometer-sized oil droplets dispersed in water, a system known as oil-in-water nanoemulsion. The motivation for this research is the large significance of the interfacial nanostructures ...

Ozonation of drinking water and wastewater is accompanied by the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) such as low molecular weight aldehydes and ketones from the reactions of ozone with dissolved organic matter (DOM). By applying a recently develope ...

The design of functional structures from primary building blocks requires a thorough understanding of how size, shape, and particle-particle interactions steer the assembly process. Specifically, for electrically conductive networks build from carbon nanot ...

In this work, we provide a comparison between the stability and the interfacial structure of micrometer-sized and nanometer-sized droplets by employing a multi-instrumental approach comprised of the surface-sensitive technique of sum frequency scattering a ...

Nanostructured graphitic materials, including graphene hosting Å to nanometer-sized pores, have attracted attention for various applications such as separations, sensors, and energy storage. Graphene with Å-scale pores is a promising next-generation materi ...
