The effect of sulphur content on the hot working behaviour of Cu-DHP alloy was investigated by hot compression testing. It was revealed that sulphur increases the flow stress, as critically discussed based on the constitutive analysis, leading to reliable ...

Multi-material laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) is a promising approach to meet industrial demands for multifunctional components, due to its enhanced freedom of design. Copper and stainless steel are interesting materials to be combined due to the hi ...

This research aims to compare the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of new neighbourhood projects near the Rhône River in France and Switzerland. The study considers the influence of the river on energy demand and resilience to climate change of 12 project-ba ...

The plastic deformation of small-scale face-centered cubic metals exhibits intermittent slip burst events that appear on stress-strain curves as sudden strain jumps and/or load drops. These events are generally attributed to the avalanche-like cooperative ...

Well beyond the impact of climate change, anthropogenic modifications of the Vietnam Mekong Delta's ecosystems have resulted in environmental degradation and subsequent loss in ecosystems. The environmental impacts include but are not limited to accelerate ...

To accelerate the exploration, screening, and discovery of structural high-entropy alloys with targeted properties, the newly developed High-Throughput Hot-Isostatic-Pressing based Micro-Synthesis Approach (HT-HIP-MSA) is employed to efficiently synthesize ...

Variant reorientation is a ubiquitous phenomenon in shape memory alloys and has a great influence on their texture and mechanical response. In the present study, a martensitic NiTi rolled sheet is investigated by the electron backscattering diffraction (EB ...

The project aims to validate some recent theoretical developments on the deformation twinning nucleation mechanism in HCP metals through small-scale mechanic experiments. To this end, a systematic investigation of the mechanical response of pure magnesium ...

Bulk Metallic Glasses (BMG) are metallic alloys that have the ability to solidify in an amorphous state. BMGs show enhanced properties, for instance, high hardness, strength, and excellent corrosion and wear resistance. BMGs produced by conventional method ...

The compressive resistance of concrete in new structures is usually characterized on the basis of tests performed on concrete cylinders or cubes under relatively rapid loading conditions. Although efficient for material characterization, these tests do not ...

G115 steel has gained a growing interesting recently for its use in next-generation ultra-supercritical power plant applications. Due to the high densities of dislocations and lath martensite boundaries in G115 steel, interactions between solutes and dislo ...

Pure magnesium (Mg) is an attractive metal for structural applications due to its low density, but also has low ductility and low fracture toughness. Dilute alloying of Mg with rare earth elements in small amounts improves the ductility, but the effects of ...

The objective of this thesis is to improve methods for predicting the fatigue life, multiaxial or not, of mild- and more particularly high-strength steels using local approaches that have the capacity to be applicable to almost any cases, hence the term ge ...

The transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect is investigated during a load path change using a cruciform sample. The transformation properties are followed by in-situ neutron diffraction derived from the central area of the cruciform sample. Additio ...

Massive transformation, as a non-conventional solid-state phase transformation mode, is scarcely observed in metals with hexagonal closed packed (HCP) structure, especially in Zr and its alloys. In this study, however, we report the massive transformation ...

Plastic effects during sheet metal forming can lead to undesirable distortions in formed components. Here, the three-stage work hardening and plastic strain recovery ("springback") in a cold-rolled, alpha-phase commercially pure titanium is examined. Inter ...

A multi-phase Ti-6Al-4V prepared by electron beam melting and thermal post treatments has been shown to exhibit increased strength and ductility over standard wrought or hot isostatic pressed Ti-6-Al-4V. The mechanical improvements are due to a prolonged, ...

The thermally activated pyramidal-to-basal (PB) transition of (c + a) dislocations, transforming glissile pyramidal dissociated core structures into sessile basal dissociated ones, lies at the origin of low ductility in pure magnesium (Mg). Solute-accelera ...

Age hardening induced by the formation of (semi)-coherent precipitate phases is crucial for the processing and final properties of the widely used Al-6000 alloys despite the early stages of precipitation are still far from being fully understood. This cruc ...
