Tetra- and trichloroethene (PCE, TCE) are organohalides polluting the environment as a result of inappropriate use, storage, and disposal by various industries. Anthropogenic pollution by organohalides is a major source of concern because of their undesira ...

For more than a century, it has been recognized that our genetic inheritance and our environment interact to shape who we are and how we act (nature vs. nurture ), and the study of genetics has allowed us to explain why traits can vary dramatically betwee ...

The transcriptional regulator GlxR has been characterized as a global hub within the gene-regulatory network of Corynebacterium glutamicum. Chromatin immunoprecipitation with a specific anti-GlxR antibody and subsequent high-throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq ...

Sunflower mutant lines with an enhanced tolerance and metal accumulation capacity obtained by mutation breeding have been proposed for Zn, Cd and Cu removal from metal-contaminated soils in previous studies. However, soils contaminated with trace elements ...

A process for producing a metal article containing at least 10% interconnected porosity, using a preform (11), comprising: mixing an organic binder, a wetting agent and a granular material, to obtain a mouldable paste that combines 10 vol. pct. or more of ...

Purpose: Preclinical trials of a mouse model of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNET) were conducted to determine whether dual FGF/VEGF pathway inhibition with brivanib can improve first-line efficacy in comparison with VEGF inhibitors lacking fibroblast ...

The dinuclear dichloro complexes [(η6-arene)2Ru2(μ-Cl)2Cl2] and [(η5-C5Me5)2M2(μ-Cl)2Cl2] react with 2-(pyridine-2-yl)thiazole (pyTz) to afford the cationic complexes [(η6-arene)Ru(pyTz)Cl]+ (arene = C6H6 (1), p-iPrC6H4Me (2) or C6Me6 (3)) and [(η5-C5Me5)M ...

A review. Platinum complex-based chemotherapy is one of the major treatment options of many malignancies. Although severe side effects occur, and only a limited spectrum of tumors can be cured, Pt compds. are used in every second therapy scheme. Thus, many ...

We studied the relationships between testate amoeba communities and heavy metal (Pb, Cd, Zn, Ni, Cu, Mn, and Fe) concentrations in the moss Barbula indica sampled at 29 sites in and around the city of Hanoi (Vietnam). Our first approach was to compare the ...

Metal complexation by dissolved organic matter, as humic acids, is considered to decrease metal bioavailability by lowering the free metal ion concentration. However, dissolved organic matter adsorption on cell surfaces can modify cell membrane properties, ...

Living bacteria offer an ecological and cost-effective alternative to the classical physical and chemical techniques for the treatment of environmental contaminations. Although their increasing use in toxic metal removal, systematic studies on the influenc ...

The discovery of the anticancer properties of cisplatin in 1965 heralded the development of metallopharmaceuticals and founded a revolution in cancer therapy. Platinum drugs are believed to induce cytotoxicity by cross-linking DNA, causing changes to the D ...

The discovery of new metal-based antitumor drugs, whether cisplatin derivs. or those based on other metals, has been largely based on cell viability assays (IC50 values) and compds. that bind to DNA. This approach has been applied for more than 30 years du ...

Dinuclear ruthenium complexes were shown to exhibit strong antiproliferative properties in human tumor cell lines. In order to extend the structure−activity relationships (SARs), a series of new RuII(arene)X complexes (X = Cl, Br, I) linked by pyridinone-b ...
