This paper presents the use of a shear bulk acoustic mode resonator made of a membrane of X-cut lithium niobate (LiNbO3) for ultra-wide band filter applications. Aluminum interdigitated (IDT) electrodes are deposited on top of the LiNbO3 thin film as well ...

Fields of technology as diverse as microwave filter construction, characterization of material interfaces with atomic precision, and detection of gravitational waves from astronomical sources employ mechanical resonators at their core. The utility of mecha ...

Optical frequency combs are a series of phase-locked and equidistant laser lines in the spectral domain. In the time domain, they correspond to periodic pulse trains by the Fourier relation. The ability to shape optical combs and pulse trains is pivotal to ...

A closed-loop neuromodulation system, including an electrode array that is implantable to a brain of a subject, analog front-end device (AFD) for selectively selecting and reading a plurality of channels from electrode array, a finite impulse response (FIR ...

This paper proposes an alternative technique for the design of miniaturized waveguide filters based on locally resonant metamaterials (LRMs). We implement ultrasmall metamaterial filters (metafilters) by exploiting a subwavelength (sub-λ) guiding mechanism ...

This paper presents the use of a novel type of resonators made of a thin membrane of Y-cut Lithium Niobate that has an array of interdigitated electrodes on the top, and a floating metal on the bottom. Each electrode gives rise to a quasi-independent reson ...

RF MEMS piezoelectric acoustic resonators are the essential building blocks for RF filters used in RF front-end modules for wireless mobile communication due to their compact size in the MHz-GHz frequency range, high Quality factors and large relative band ...

Soft switching in dual-active-bridge (DAB) converters enables their efficient operation at high frequencies, where the reduction in the size of magnetic components could result in ultra-high power densities. Nonetheless, losing soft-switching at high frequ ...

This paper demonstrates the capability of locally resonant metamaterials (LRMs) for creating compact metallic waveguide E- and H-bends, which are simultaneously working as bandpass filters. For creating these bent meta-filters, we use composite pin-pipe wa ...

A new gas puff imaging diagnostic has been installed on the TCV tokamak, providing two-dimensional insights into scrape-off-layer (SOL) turbulence dynamics above, at and below the magnetic X-point. A detailed study in L-mode, attached, lower single-null di ...

This paper presents a dedicated study of plasma-antenna (PA) coupling with the Alfven Eigenmode Active Diagnostic (AEAD) in JET. Stable AEs and their resonant frequencies f, damping rates gamma < 0, and toroidal mode numbers n are measured for various PA s ...

A transverse feedback system can effectively mitigate the emittance growth caused by injection oscillations and machine noise in hadron beams. However, as its action on the beam depends on beam position measurements of finite accuracy, it introduces additi ...

Voice activity detection (VAD) is an important pre-processing step for speech technology applications. The task consists of deriving segment boundaries of audio signals which contain voicing information. In recent years, it has been shown that voice source ...

The Transfer Matrix formalism is ubiquitous when it comes to study wave propagation in various stratified media, applications ranging from Seismology to Quantum Mechanics. A relation between variables at two points in two different layers can be establishe ...

The emergence of wide-band-gap (WBG) power transistors with low conduction losses and high-speed switching speeds has paved the way for more-than-ever efficient power electronics systems and huge energy saving potentials. Likewise, power density- the ratio ...

Recently, IGCTs have shown a great potential for the soft-switching dc transformer applications based on LLC resonant converter. The zero-voltage switching that is present in this converter topology enables an operation of IGCTs without clamping circuit an ...

Despite numerous applications of physically-based models for incised landscapes, their applicability for overland flow on unchanneled surfaces is not known. This work challenges a widely used landscape evolution model for the case of non-uniform rainfall a ...

Gravitational microlensing is a powerful tool for probing the inner structure of strongly lensed quasars and for constraining parameters of the stellar mass function of lens galaxies. This is achieved by analysing microlensing light curves between the mult ...

Here we adapt and evaluate a full-face snorkel mask for use as personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers, who lack appropriate alternatives during the COVID-19 crisis in the spring of 2020. The design (referred to as Pneumask) consists of ...

Photonic add-drop filters are crucial components for the implementation of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in fiber-optic communication systems. The recent progress in photonic integration has shown the potential to integrate photonic add-drop filte ...
