Solid-State Transformers are conventionally based on a multi-stage architecture, with an input and/or an output AC/DC converter (for interfacing with the AC grid and/or the load), and with an isolated DC/DC conversion stage (to provide insulation and volta ...

The Modularized Bridge Rectifier is a promising architecture for Solid State Transformers in Medium Voltage AC to Low Voltage DC applications, thanks to the scalability and modularity obtained by integrating multiple galvanically isolated conversion stages ...

Series Resonant Converters allow an efficient, galvanically isolated, and load-independent DC/DC conversion, and can be used as isolation DC/DC units in two-stage single-phase AC/DC converters. However, in such systems, the single-phase Active Front End un ...

The concept of a multi-source inverter (MSI) based on NPC topology was recently introduced for hybrid-electric powertrains to connect several dc sources to the traction load in a single conversion stage without magnetics. This work proposes a new modulatio ...

The control of a modular multilevel converter can be achieved in various ways. Traditionally, upper-layer energy controllers and middle-layer current controllers are centrally implemented. In some hardware realizations, the submodules also include a local ...

In two-stage solid-state transformers with input-series output-parallel structure, the LLC converter operating at a fixed switching frequency is a common choice for the isolated DC/DC conversion stage because it can provide a high efficiency and a fixed vo ...

Solid-State Transformers with Input-Series/Output-Parallel configuration offer a convenient solution for AC/DC conversion due to their scalability and modularity. In this configuration, each module experiences a second-order harmonic ripple caused by local ...

AC/DC power distribution networks use various types of power converters to interconnect their buses, active front ends between AC and DC buses, and DC transformers between DC buses. Different active front end control methods, like voltage or power regulati ...

Modularized Bridge Rectifier (mBR) is a promising architecture of single-stage solid-state transformer. Without the presence of AC/DC active rectifier, the system performance solely depends on the control and optimization of isolated DC/DC converters. This ...

Solid-state transformers with input-series outputparallel structures are being considered for a variety of applications requiring MVAC to LVDC conversion. Due to the singlephase AC/DC conversion at the input side, all floating cells of the solid-state tran ...

Impedance estimation is an important tool for grid- converter interaction evaluation. Using existing grid-connected converters for perturbation injection enables grid impedance estimation during operation without additional hardware (namely dedicated pertu ...

Estimating the impedance of a grid-connected device or of a grid at the point of common coupling is important for evaluating the interaction between them. Impedance measurement involves a perturbation injection device, that perturbs the system, and a measu ...

Recently, we published an article [1] presenting how the Power Electronics course at the bachelor level is organized by the Power Electronics Laboratory and taught at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL, Switzerland. For those avid readers who m ...

Dual-port dc-ac converters utilizing the Neutral-Point-Clamped (NPC) multilevel topology are increasingly considered for the compact integration of multiple sources and loads in various applications. NPC-based dual-port converters (NPCDPC) allow the interc ...

Solid-State Transformers with Input-Series/Output- Parallel configuration offer a convenient solution for AC/DC power conversion, thanks to their modularity, scalability and flexibility. However, as known, they are affected by a second-order harmonic rippl ...

The fixed-frequency operated LLC converters can provide a fixed voltage gain with galvanic isolation between the input and output. However, when applied in two-stage AC/DC converters, the equivalent current that flows through the LLC converter, which corre ...
