The development of a high current baseline scenario (I-p=3.5MA, q(95)approximate to 3.0, beta(N)

In recent years a strong effort has been made to investigate disruption avoidance schemes in order to aid the development of integrated operational scenarios for ITER. Within the EUROfusion programme the disruptive H-mode density limit (HDL) has been studi ...

In this paper we lay the groundwork for a robust cross-device comparison of data-driven disruption prediction algorithms on DIII-D and JET tokamaks. In order to consistently carry on a comparative analysis, we define physics-based indicators of disruption ...

The high confinement mode (H-mode) is a promising route to achieve high performance tokamak operations, as the ones foreseen in ITER and beyond. However, accessing a stable H-mode phase requires that the power across the plasma separatrix, Psep, exceeds a ...

The tokamak a configuration variable (TCV) continues to leverage its unique shaping capabilities, flexible heating systems and modern control system to address critical issues in preparation for ITER and a fusion power plant. For the 2019-20 campaign its c ...

In a typical fusion experiment, the plasma can have several possible confinement modes. At the tokamak a configuration variable, aside from the low (L) and high (H) confinement modes, an additional mode, dithering (D), is frequently observed. Developing me ...

A systematic study of the power threshold for L-H transition has been conducted in TCV. Only results from NB heated plasmas are reported. The dependencies of PLH on plasma current, plasma density and main ion species have been investigated. For Deuterium&# ...

The need for predictive capabilities greater than 95% with very limited false alarms are demanding requirements for reliable disruption prediction systems in tokamaks such as JET or, in the near future, ITER. The prediction of an upcoming disruption must b ...

Tokamaks allow to confine fusion plasma with magnetic fields. The prediction/reconstruction of the last closed-flux surface (LCFS) is one of the primary challenges in the control of the magnetic configuration. The evolution in time of the LCFS is determine ...

Carbon impurity transport is studied in the TCV tokamak using a charge exchange recombination diagnostic. TCVs flexible shaping capabilities were exploited to extend previous impurity transport studies to negative triangularity (delta < 0). A practical way ...

For long-pulse tokamaks, one of the main challenges in the control strategy is to simultaneously reach multiple control objectives and to robustly handle in real-time (RT) unexpected events [off-normal-events (ONEs)] with a limited set of actuators. We hav ...

In tokamaks, rotating magneto-hydro-dynamic modes frequently decelerate as their amplitude increases. Once a critical threshold in amplitude is reached, these modes stop rotating into a specific toroidal and poloidal position and are commonly named Locked ...

On the basis of several recent breakthroughs in fusion research, many activities have been launched around the world to develop fusion power plants on the fastest possible time scale. In this context, high-fidelity simulations of the plasma behavior on lar ...

DT operations at JET gave a unique and invaluable opportunity to design, develop and test real -time controllers that will be applied in future burning plasma devices, as ITER and SPARC. Among them, the dud detector [L. Piron et al. 2019 Fusion Eng. Design ...

This database is associated with the following paper: L-H power threshold for neutral beam heated plasmas with Deuterium, Hydrogen, Helium and mixed ion species in TCV Benoit Labit, Filippo Bagnato, Basil P Duval, Alexander N Karpushov, Bryan Lee Linehan, ...

In this work, a purely data-driven discharge prediction model was developed and tested without integrating any data or results from simulations. The model was developed based on the experimental data from the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak ( ...

Under the auspices of EUROfusion, the ITER baseline (IBL) scenario has been jointly investigated on AUG and TCV in the past years and this paper reports on the developments on TCV. It is found that the performance of TCV IBL is mainly limited by (neoclassi ...
