electronic band structure of MgB2 involves a unique combination of two-and three-dimensional (3D) electrons derived from the boron sigma and pi states, respectively. We have mapped out the sigma and pi bands over the complete Brillouin zone, including the ...

The transition temperature T-c of unconventional superconductivity is often tunable. For a monolayer of FeSe, for example, the sweet spot is uniquely bound to titanium-oxide substrates. By contrast for La2-xSrxCuO4 thin films, such substrates are sub-optim ...

We present high resolution (Delta E=120 meV) resonant inelastic x-ray scattering data measured at the Ni L-3 edge (2p(3/2)-> 3d) on the paradigmatic antiferromagnetic oxide NiO. Spectra reveal clear signatures of magnetic excitations at similar to 95 and s ...

We investigate by resonant inelastic x-ray scattering the magnetic excitations in thin films of tetragonal CuO. We identify a spin wave excitation, dispersing on two cupratelike antiferromagnetic sublattices. Its energy at the boundary of the Brillouin zon ...

We use resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the Cu L3 edge to measure the charge and spin excitations in the “half-stuffed” Cu-O planes of the cuprate antiferromagnet Ba2Cu3O4Cl2. The RIXS line shape reveals distinct contributions to the dd excita ...

Studying multi-particle elementary excitations has provided unique access to understand collective many-body phenomena in correlated electronic materials, paving the way towards constructing microscopic models. In this work, we perform O K-edge resonant in ...

We report a high-resolution resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering study of the quantum magnetic spin-chain materials Li2CuO2 and CuGeO3. By tuning the incoming photon energy to the oxygen K edge, a strong excitation around 3.5 eV energy loss is clearly ...

We report the observation of weak magnetism in superlattices of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 using beta-detected nuclear magnetic resonance. The spin lattice relaxation rate of Li-8 in superlattices with a spacer layers of 8 and 6 unit cells of LaAlO3 exhibits a strong p ...

The effects of electron-electron correlations on the low-energy electronic structure and their relationship with unconventional superconductivity are central aspects in the research on iron-based pnictide superconductors. Here we use soft x-ray angle-resol ...

We investigate magnetic excitations in the spin-ladder compound Sr14Cu24O41 using high-resolution Cu L-3 edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS). Our findings demonstrate that RIXS couples to two-triplon collective excitations. In contrast to inela ...

We study the fate of the surface states of Bi2Se3 under disorder with strength larger than the bulk gap, caused by neon sputtering and nonmagnetic adsorbates. We find that neon sputtering introduces strong but dilute defects, which can be modeled by a unit ...

In high-resolution resonant inelastic x-ray scattering at the Ti L edge of the charge-density-wave system 1T-TiSe2, we observe sharp low energy loss peaks from electron-hole pair excitations developing at low temperature. These excitations are strongly dis ...

We present a detailed analysis of resonant inelastic x-ray scattering from Fe1.087Te with unprecedented energy resolution. In contrast to the sharp peaks typically seen in insulating systems at the transition-metal L-3 edge, we observe spectra which show d ...

V L-3 edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering measurements performed on high quality BaVS3 single crystals reveal that the intra-t(2g) dd excitations close to the elastic peak are suppressed below the metal-insulator transition induced by the Peierls inst ...

We present a soft x-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SX-ARPES) study of the stoichiometric pnictide superconductor LaRu2P2. The observed electronic structure is in good agreement with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. However, it ...
