We present a novel method to perform numerical integration over curved polyhedra enclosed by high-order parametric surfaces. Such a polyhedron is first decomposed into a set of triangular and/or rectangular pyramids, whose certain faces correspond to the g ...

This work extends the stress recovery for laminated composite solid plates, proposed in [1,2], to curved structures. Based on 3D Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) computations and equilibrium, this procedure uses a single element through the thickness in combina ...

The matrix formation associated to high-order discretizations is known to be numerically demanding. Based on the existing procedure of interpolation and lookup, we design a multiscale assembly procedure to reduce the exorbitant assembly time in the context ...

We present a novel isogeometric method, namely the Immersed Boundary-Conformal Method (IBCM), that features a layer of discretization conformal to the boundary while employing a simple background mesh for the remaining domain. In this manner, we leverage t ...

Inspired by the introduction of Volumetric Modeling via volumetric representations (V-reps) by Massarwi and Elber in 2016, in this paper we present a novel approach for the construction of isogeometric numerical methods for elliptic PDEs on trimmed geometr ...

This paper addresses the overwhelming computational resources needed with standard numerical approaches to simulate architected materials. Those multiscale heterogeneous lattice structures gain intensive interest in conjunction with the improvement of addi ...

This contribution explores the combined capabilities of reduced basis methods and IsoGeometric Analysis (IGA) in the context of parameterized partial differential equations. The introduction of IGA enables a unified simulation framework based on a single g ...

A novel approach which combines isogeometric collocation and an equilibrium-based stress recovery technique is applied to analyze laminated composite plates. Isogeometric collocation is an appealing strong form alternative to standard Galerkin approaches, ...

3D objects, modeled using Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) tools, are traditionally represented using a boundary representation (B-rep), and typically use spline functions to parameterize these boundary surfaces. However, recent development in physic ...

This work focuses on the coupling of trimmed shell patches using Isogeometric Analysis, based on higher continuity splines that seamlessly meet the

requirement of Kirchhoff-Love-based discretizations. Weak enforcement of coupling conditions is achiev ...

In this paper, we consider unilateral contact problem without friction between a rigid body and deformable one in the framework of isogeometric analysis. We present the theoretical analysis of the mixed problem. For the displacement, we use the pushforward ...

Despite the accelerated deployment of laminated composites in a wide variety of markets due to their peculiar engineering features, the design of those materials is often restrained by the lack of cost-efficient modeling techniques. In fact, the existing s ...

This work utilizes the Immersed Boundary Conformal Method (IBCM) to analyze linear elastic Kirchhoff–Love and Reissner–Mindlin shell structures within an immersed domain framework. Immersed boundary methods involve embedding complex geometries within a bac ...

Local modifications of a computational domain are often performed in order to simplify the meshing process and to reduce computational costs and memory requirements. However, removing geometrical features of a domain often introduces a non-negligible error ...

Effective properties of materials with random heterogeneous structures are typically determined by homogenising the mechanical quantity of interest in a window of observation. The entire problem setting encompasses the solution of a local PDE and some aver ...

We present a novel stabilized isogeometric formulation for the Stokes problem, where the geometry of interest is obtained via overlapping NURBS (non-uniform rational B-spline) patches, i.e., one patch on top of another in an arbitrary but predefined hierar ...

Region extraction is a very common task in both Computer Science and Engineering with several applications in object recognition and motion analysis, among others. Most of the literature focuses on regions delimited by straight lines, often in the special ...

We present a novel method for isogeometric analysis (IGA) to directly work on geometries constructed by Boolean operations including difference (i.e., trimming), union, and intersection. Particularly, this work focuses on the union operation, which involve ...

This work focuses on the development of a posteriori error estimates for fourth-order, elliptic, partial differential equations. In particular, we propose a novel algorithm to steer an adaptive simulation in the context of Kirchhoff plates and Kirchhoff–Lo ...
