Thermal energy storage via latent heat provides an energy dense solution and, during discharge, a hot stream at a well-defined temperature. Utilizing metal phase change materials (PCMs) and high-temperature operation might enable fast (dis)charging and app ...

The solar thermochemical cycle based on ceria is a promising route for renewable fuel production. The solar-to-fuel efficiency of a thermochemical reactor is highly dependent on the oxygen removal during the reduction step. Conventional nitrogen sweeping ( ...

Understanding the dynamic response of a solar fuel processing system utilizing concentrated solar radiation and made of a thermally-integrated photovoltaic (PV) and water electrolyzer (EC) is important for the design, development and implementation of this ...

The production of synthetic fuels and chemicals from solar energy and abundant reagents offers a promising pathway to a sustainable fuel economy and chemical industry. For the production of hydrogen, photoelectrochemical or integrated photovoltaic and elec ...

High-temperature electrolysis for reducing H2O (and CO2) to H2 (and CO) converts concentrated solar energy into fuels and chemical feedstock. We invented an integrated reactor concept comprising a solar cavity receiver for reactant heating, a solid oxide e ...

The reconstruction of the angular and spatial intensity distribution from radiative flux maps measured in high flux solar simulators or optical concentrators is an ill-posed inverse problem requiring special solution strategies. We aimed at providing a sol ...

We present experimental and computational approaches to characterize the multimode heat transfer in an open-cell Si-SiC foam exposed to a transverse heat flux. The experimental setup consists of a 5×5×10 cm3 parallelepipedal 10ppi foam (83% porosity) place ...

Solar dishes concentrate the quasi-collimated sun light towards a focal point. Typically, the optical characterization consists of experimental flux map measurements and Monte-Carlo ray-tracing (MCRT) simulations, which are fitted based on experimental dat ...
