In Europe, computation of displacement demand for seismic assessment of existing buildings is essentially based on a simplified formulation of the N2 method as prescribed by Eurocode 8 (EC8). However, a lack of accuracy of the N2 method in certain conditio ...

In Italy, after the destructions of World War II, due the particular development of economy and the political decision in the field of reconstruction, a government option for building construction industrialization comes up only at the beginning of ‘60s. A ...

The non-linear seismic displacement demand prediction for low-period structures, i.e. with an initial fundamental period situated in the plateau of design response spectra is studied. In Eurocode 8, the computation of seismic displacement demands is essent ...

Assessing seismic vulnerability at large scales requires accurate attribution of individual buildings to more general typological classes that are representative of the seismic behavior of the buildings sharing same attributes. One-by-one evaluation of all ...

Seismic assessment of existing heritage buildings remains a challenging task. There is a high level of complexity and uncertainty compared with the assessment of standard buildings. Heritage masonry churches are usually prone to partial collapses during ea ...

Earthquake-design approaches in regions with low to medium seismic hazard often focus on the protection of inhabitants. Therefore, some structural damage is accepted. In addition, large parts of the building stock have usually been built without considerin ...

Context. The Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) contains more than half a million sources that are identified as variable stars. ...

This paper addresses seismic vulnerability assessment at urban scale. Particularly, it focuses on the differences in damage distribution obtained from the application of several simplified methods for displacement demand determination. The results obtained ...

Italian territory is particularly sensitive to seismic actions. The Amatrice earthquake on August 24th 2016 confirmed this aspect. Such an event, nothing but extraordinary, has been able to cause huge and tragic damages. The direct knowledge of building fe ...

Le politiche urbane necessitano sempre più di operare interventi di trasformazione ed adeguamento della città esistente in un’ottica di rigenerazione urbana integrata. Nel tempo, si sono succeduti numerosi tentativi di affrontare le problematiche locali at ...
