Anna Varini

Dr. Anna Varini received her B.Eng. degree in physical and biomedical engineering from National Technical University of Ukraine (KPI), Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2007. She received  her PhD (Dr.Sc.) degree for her work on solid state biosensor for measuring activity of living cells from The University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth, Australia, in 2014. From 2013 to 2015, she contributed to the research at The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (Australian Government research agency) and joined Curtin University department of exploration geophysics as research fellow and lecturer, focusing on integrated geophysical sensing systems and electronic design. From 2015 to 2016, she was working on development of a photonic MEMS sensor for rapid detection of antibiotic resistant bacteria at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. From 2017 to 2018, she was working as part of the team developing Vaunt glasses for Intel, focusing on verification (production testing) and data analyses for laser driven MEMS-based display systems. In 2020 she has joined Q-lab at EPFL as a research fellow to work on silicon photonic micro and nano systems. She has authored and co-authored more than 30 papers in leading technical journals and conferences. Her research interests include physical and biological solid state sensors, silicon photonic micro and nanosystems and system prototyping.
