This paper presents a detailed state-space modeling of a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) in combination with line frequency transformer (LFT). The classical MMC topology is compared with the recently proposed Open-End Winding MMC (OEWMMC) topology, whic ...

Medium voltage (MV) high power applications are usually realized using high voltage semiconductors (3.3kV and above) operated in hard switching mode with low switching frequencies (several hundreds of Hz). However, for high power DC-DC converters employing ...

Stacking of the floating structures, known as submodules or cells, provides the modular multilevel converter with theoretically unlimited voltage scalability. However, such a convenience comes at a price of increased control complexity, especially in the d ...

The deexcitation of a synchronous machine has been used for the protection of the power supply based on a diode rectifier in marine dc power distribution networks. The fault current from the generator can be eliminated with the protection method utilizing ...

The development and integration of power electronics equipment and converters for medium voltage ac and dc application has created different subsystem interactions that require proper investigation, understanding, description and estimation of global syste ...

This paper demonstrates the splitting of the modular multilevel converter real-time simulation model into several independent parts through the use of the virtual capacitor concept. As a result, the number of state-space matrices the real-time solver needs ...

This paper provides accurate analytic models for a computationally efficient estimation of the natural con- vection cooling coefficients for typical geometries, such as those encountered in transformers. Proper thermal coordination is an essential step of ...

Modular multilevel matrix converter is a type of converter used in medium-voltage ac-ac power conversion. Controlling the energy content of the converter arms is a prerequisite for a proper converter operation, and at the same time a challenging control ta ...

When it comes to the computation / estimation of the switching losses in a multilevel converter, it is crucial to know the instantaneous value of the output current. If the average output current value is used instead, there is a non negligible error when ...

The fixed-frequency operated LLC converters can provide a fixed voltage gain with galvanic isolation between the input and output. However, when applied in two-stage AC/DC converters, the equivalent current that flows through the LLC converter, which corre ...

To improve the performances of the present European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a new family of power supplies for Superconducting Magnets (SCM) is being designed to enhance the operating cycle and recover magnetic ...

Condition health monitoring strategies applied to different power electronics applications are gaining popularity as early component degradation detection can trigger preventive maintenance actions before a significant fault occurs. In highly modular conve ...
