We compute an optimal day-ahead dispatch plan for distribution networks with stochastic resources and batteries, while accounting for grid and battery losses. We formulate and solve a scenario-based AC Optimal Power Flow (OPF), which is by construction non ...

Localised and high-frequency measurements of the global horizontal irradiance (GHI) are a key information to assess the level of power production of distributed photovoltaic generation. The paper presents a supervised machine learning-based procedure to es ...

A method to quantify the equivalent storage capacity inherent the operation of thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) is developed. Equivalent storage capacity is defined as the amount of power and electricity consumption which can be deferred or anticip ...

In this paper, we propose and experimentally validate a scheduling and control framework for distributed energy resources (DERs) that achieves to track a day-ahead dispatch plan of a distribution network hosting controllable and stochastic heterogeneous re ...

We consider the problem of estimating the (unobserved) amounts of PV generation and demand in a power distribution network starting from measurements of the aggregated power flow at the point of common coupling (PCC) by leveraging local global horizontal i ...

The increasing interest in integrating volatile resources into microgrids implies the necessity of quantifying the uncertainty of photovoltaic (PV) production using dedicated probabilistic forecast techniques. The work presents a novel method to construct ...

Uncertainty levels in forecasting of renewable generation and demand are known to affect the amount of reserve required to operate the power grid with a given level of reliability. In this paper, we quantify the effects on the system reserve and reliabilit ...

Global horizontal irradiance (GHI) is typically used to model the power output of distributed photovoltaic (PV) generation. On the one hand, satellite estimations are nonpervasive and already available from commercial providers, but they have a limited spa ...

Transmission System Operators (TSOs) deploy frequency control reserves and regulating power to maintain the load-generation balance in real-time operation of power systems. In the Nordic countries, the TSOs buy regulating power from the Nord Pool regulatin ...

Distributed photovoltaic (PV) generation is typically connected to power distribution grids, which are not designed to host a large amount of production if it is significantly larger than their nominal electricity demand. Given the prominent role of PV in ...

In this paper, the problem of dispatching the operation of a distribution feeder comprising a set of heterogeneous resources is investigated. The main objective is to track a power trajectory, called the dispatch plan, which is computed the day before the ...

The objective of this paper is to analyze the value of energy replacement in the context of demand response. Energy replacement is defined as the possibility of the consumer to choose the most convenient source for providing space heating to a smart buildi ...

Dispatching active distribution networks is expected to play an important role in the smart grid technologies. Voltage control is also starting to be widely proposed to avoid voltage violations in the electrical grid. The integration of the storage in the ...

Power systems with large shares of converter-interfaced renewables may be characterised by low grid inertia due to the lack of frequency containment provided by synchronous generators. Battery energy storage systems (BESSs), which can adjust their power ou ...

In this paper, we propose a model-based filtering strategy to reconstruct the maximum power production of a PV power plant thanks to integrating measurements of the PV cell temperature, system DC voltage and DC current. The filter relies on a reversed phys ...

We describe a process to dispatch the operation of a medium voltage distribution feeder and improve its quality-of-service using a battery energy storage system (BESS). It is organized according to a day-ahead and intra-day structure to allow the integrati ...

The paper considers the problem of estimating the parameters of the compound admittance matrix of three-phase untransposed low-and medium-voltage electrical distribution networks using synchrophasor measurements from phasor measurement units (PMUs). The wo ...

The Smart Transformer, a solid-state transformer with control and communication functionalities, can be the ideal solution for integrating storage into the grid. By leveraging the knowledge of the grid state of distribution grids thanks to smart meters and ...

The flexibility of distributed energy resources (DERs) accommodated in active distribution networks (ADNs) can be aggregated and then used to provide ancillary services to the transmission system. In this context, this paper presents a linear optimization ...

In fixed PV installations, the azimuth and tilt of the panels are normally chosen with the objective of maximizing the plant capacity factor. In this paper, we show that when considering distribution networks with densely clustered PV plants, there exist i ...
