Integration of non-dispatchable renewable energy sources such as wind and solar into the grid is challenging due to the stochastic nature of energy sources. Hence, electrical hubs (EH) and virtual power plants that combine non-dispatchable energy sources, ...

Integrating renewable energy into standalone Internal Combustion Generator (ICG) systems is an economical and eco-friendly option. However, previous studies demonstrate the difficulties in replacing the ICGs completely by using Solar PV (SPV) and wind ener ...

This study proposes an integrated methodology to assess the BIPV potential of existing urban neighborhoods, including social acceptance and grid infrastructure management issues; as a demonstration, a case study in Geneva, Switzerland is considered. In par ...

Extreme climate events occur more frequently and stronger in the future due to climate change. Maintaining the energy security during extreme conditions is essential to reduce the impacts of extreme climate and avoid disasters. Resilient design of the ener ...

Energy storage is generally considered as a means to bridge a period between when/where energy is available and when/where it is in demand. Storage plays an important role by providing flexibility to energy systems, increasing the potential to accommodate ...

Climate change and increased urban population are two major concerns for society. Moving towards more sustainable energy solutions in the urban context by integrating renewable energy technologies supports decarbonizing the energy sector and climate change ...

The importance of integrating renewable energy sources into standalone energy systems is highlighted in recent literature. Maintaining energy efficiency is challenging in designing such hybrid energy systems (HES) due to seasonal variation of renewable ene ...

A novel method is introduced in this study to consider flexibility taking into account both system design and operation strategy by using fuzzy logic. A stochastic optimization algorithm is introduced to optimize the system design and operation strategy of ...

This study presents a comprehensive analysis on the energy demand and supply of typical European city centers for present time and 2050 horizon according to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) climatic scenario A1B. Building and urban arc ...

Standard and newly designed building blocks for complex urban sites-also designated by urban archetypes - are used in this study to quantify the influence of urban forms on their energy demand and energy systems design. An energy hub, which consists on a m ...

Integrating renewable energy technologies based on solar PV (SPV) and wind energy in the energy system is challenging due to time dependence of the energy potential for these energy sources. Grid integrated hybrid energy systems combining SPV panels, wind ...

Uncertainties of demand, generation and component outage can lead to black-outs in the grid. This study proposes an optimization algorithm (based on Benders Decomposition (BD)) to optimize a Power Transmission System (PTS) that is robust to aforementioned ...

To determine the optimum location for non dispatchable renewable energy systems, this study comes up with an integrated tool to place energy systems considering distributed energy demand and renewable energy potential. The Citysim urban energy planning sof ...

This study aims to investigate the role of distributed generation through the energy hub concept and refurbishment of existing buildings. More specifically, a computational platform combining (i) the urban energy modelling tool CitySimPro and (ii) the micr ...

A hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) system is having the capability to convert solar energy to both electricity and thermal energy simultaneously and these systems can use to accomplish the energy demand of buildings. Performance analysis of such systems ...

The current climate change is calling for a drastic reduction of energy demand as well as of greenhouse gases. Besides this, cities also need to adapt to face the challenges related to climate change. Cities, with their complex urban texture and fabric, ca ...
