Physics-based models of electrochemical cells are of great interest for the future battery management systems (BMSs), due to their accuracy and capability to predict cell physical states. One of their main disadvantages, when compared to equivalent circuit ...

Battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are expected to play a major role in the power grid of the near future. These devices, capable of storing and returning electrical energy, are valuable assets to a grid that integrates more and more distributed, inter ...

In this paper, we propose a control framework for a battery energy storage system to provide simultaneously multiple services to the electrical grid. The objective is to maximise the battery exploitation from these services in the presence of uncertainty ( ...

In this paper, the problem of dispatching the operation of a distribution feeder comprising a set of heterogeneous resources is investigated. The main objective is to track a power trajectory, called the dispatch plan, which is computed the day before the ...

We describe a process to dispatch the operation of a medium voltage distribution feeder and improve its quality-of-service using a battery energy storage system (BESS). It is organized according to a day-ahead and intra-day structure to allow the integrati ...

In this paper, we propose a re-dispatch scheme for radial distribution grids hosting stochastic Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and controllable batteries. At each re-dispatch round, the proposed scheme computes a new dispatch plan that modifies and ex ...

The paper discusses the model identification, validation and experimental testing of current-to-voltage dynamic circuit models for a grid-connected MW-class battery. The model refers to an utility-scale 720 kVA/560 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS) ...

In this paper, the problem of dispatching the operation of a distribution feeder comprising a set of heterogeneous resources is investigated. In particular, the main objective is to track a 5-minute resolution trajectory, called the \textit{dispatch plan} ...

This paper proposes and experimentally validates a control algorithm for a grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS) to level the consumption of a group of prosumers and dispatch their aggregated operation. The control strategy is layered in a tw ...

A method for dispatching an operation of a distribution feeder of electrical power into a grid with heterogeneous prosumers, the method comprising the steps of establishing a dispatch plan on a computer by using forecast data of an aggregated consumption a ...

We propose and experimentally validate a process to dispatch the operation of a distribution feeder with heterogeneous prosumers according to a trajectory with 5 min resolution, called dispatch plan, established the day before the operation. The controllab ...

The paper presents a set of experimental investigations related to the dynamic behavior of supercapacitors. The experimentally observed results are then used as inputs for the development of an improved version of one of the most common supercapacitor RC-e ...

Traditionally, the safe operation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) is achieved by imposing conservative constraints on its DC bus current and voltage. By using a computationally efficient single particle model (SPM), we propose to replace these co ...
